The International Premiere Sep 15

"Rainbow Around the Sun" is a rock musical based on the album of the same name by singer-actor Matthew Alvin Brown. In the tradition of cinematic musicals like "Tommy," "Pink Floyd: The Wall," and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Rainbow" is a musical odyssey that plays more like a favorite album than a typical movie.
Brown stars as Zachary Blasto, a hard-drinking but talented songwriter and performer who creates vivid musical fantasies to avoid dealing with the downward spiral of his personal life. When confronted with the loss of someone he loves, Zach must choose whether to face his demons or surrender to the madness of his imaginary world.
Scenes are sequenced like songs on a record, balancing dramatic moments with honky-tonk performances and fully animated Busby Berkely-style hallucinations, all held together by Brown's performance and an emotional arc that is both honest and familiar. It's a film that wears its heart on its sleeve, created by filmmakers who believe that music can be a healing force in life, if you let it.
"Rainbow Around the Sun" world premiered at the 2008 South by Southwest Film Festival, followed by screenings at the Florida Film Festival and deadCENTER Film Festival, where it was selected as the "Best Oklahoma Film" of 2008. "Rainbow" will make its international premiere at the Athens International Film Festival in Greece on September 23rd.
