In your own time they called you crazy,
scoffed at you, spit on you,
but it didn't faze you.
You wouldn't let them push you aside,
through storms of insults
cast like hale and hatred,
laid on thick by scornful eyes.
You wouldn't let them push you down.
You put yourself in places you'd
never seen, you put on burdens
you'd never hoped to bear
because you knew it wasn't
about you. There was so much more
but you were just a joke to most,
some sideshow carnival attraction.
Did you, I mean, could you, ever have really known
what you were getting yourself into?
You weren't crazy, just faithful.
You weren't a hero, but you suffered
for our sake, you took on the weight
of the world. You took more than you could bear
alone. You cried out in doubt to the one
who sent you, "Why have you
forsaken me?" You lost control of your senses
for a blink of an eye. You knew there had to
be more, more than just your death,
even as you hung there. They
poked and prodded. They laughed
and they scorned. Were you crazy?
If you were the Son of God,
why didn't you just save yourself?
Why didn't you come down off that
cross? No. You weren't crazy,
just in love.
