In the May issue of Interview Magizine, Jacob Dylan had this to say about song-writing:
I've always had this disciplined approach to it. You have to have a work ethic and you have to be educated in what you're doing. You have to take it seriously. It doesn't mean that everything you do has to be serious. But you've got to have the tools. There are certainly a lot of people--and I won't name names--who are getting by simply on expression. And I guess that's valuable in some sense. But songs are not better just because they're emotionally honest. To write a song well, you have to put some work into it and grind it out.

[This pulse reflects the creative pulse of our Creator, God]

This creative pulse; innovates, cultivates, inspires.
It's a lot like approaching a blank canvas or scratch pad. You start with a vision in your mind, before your hand even touches the paper. While I have a clear vision of what God has for me to do, it is often difficult to clearly articulate that vision to others. To get it from my heart, to my head, to my hand and to you is often difficult, and trying. But I believe that the beauty of this vision is worth it. So captivating that you will get caught up by it. Drawn into it, and live life to the full, as Jesus' has promised.

This blog is to be a place to facilitate, nurture and grow the community that is Renovo. Although it is fairly empty now. I believe that this technological canvas will grow. It will become a place where we can share our stories, our lives, our hearts, and our faith.

Have you ever considered what the Kingdom of God looks like? Why is it that when we get older we lose our wonder and amazement with the world?

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." - Matthew 19v14 [NLT]

If this is true, as Jesus states [also appears in Mark and Luke], what can we learn from our children? I am new to parenting*, but as I enter this journey I can't help but think of this verse. 'The Kingdom belongs to those who are like these children.'

Occasionally, when I am all alone holding my little baby girl, I find myself whispering into her little ear.

What are you going to teach me about the Kingdom today?

She's taught me so much already! I can't help but think we need to let our children teach us about the Kingdom and the King (Jesus). As we start Renovo, lets listen to our kids and be careful not to ruin their sense of mystery, awe and wonder.

Beauty is something that is hard to define, but it is so central to life. Life with out beauty is hopeless.

That's why art, music, poetry and story is as important as bread and water. It's why the homeless in New York City will go with out a meal for a whole day just to buy the newest hip-hop album. It's why they best art is created in some of the worst circumstances - during wars, depression, famine, suffering and death. Beauty gives hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, passion to the passionless, and purpose to those who lost it.

At Renovo we see beauty as a central part of our journey. We encourage all to create and share beauty. Whether that's painting or sculpting a work of art, writing a poem, a song or a book, decorating your living room or kitchen, directing or filming a video, photography and graphic design, even caring for your garden or landscape -- these all create beauty.

If we take the paradigm of Jesus Christ [a suffering Savior who conquered death on our behalf] into our hearts, there is a limitless amount of expression to the hope, glory and beauty that we could create.

This blog will be a place where we share beauty, hope and truth.
