I stabbed you today
with my words
deep cuts exposing
inner conflicts
inner flesh
-I didn't mean to.
I watched you bleed
out depression
sad hollowed tears
what can I change?
what can I change?
-I wanted to stop you.
You didn't know I
watched you
didn't see me crying too
empty tear drops
empty heartache
-of how I hurt you.
Now we sit in separate
doorways
keeping grips on all the pain
locked in death speak
locked in romance
lost in memories
of our pain
pain, pain, pain, pain, pain
-I didn't mean to.
I am a culture
just me alone
where I, me, we
appreciate ice cream, candy bars
blue jeans, t-shirts.
We are full of
hot air, deep thoughts,
broken dreams, high hopes.
We are a roaming, breeding
hodge-podge of fact, fiction
tragedy and light.
We are both genius society
and humble beginning
planted in the originality of the self.
We are a culture
me, we and I
I am an island stuck
in the landlocked zone
of humanity
I am a culture...
We are a culture...
We are NOT alone!

I will be honest, I hate to talk about myself. So, I had a friend write my bio and I use it. One because she took the time to write it and two, because it tells all about my work.
I am happy to speak to anyone via email or blog. I love writing and I love reading. So without further ado, here is that bio my friend worked so hard on:
Rhonda Richmond is an incredible individual that was born and raised in Denver, CO. She is a mother; a loving wife and a poet that loves being able to sing to her children. A graduate of the University of Denver's B.A. in Communications Program, and now a graduate student she is pursuing her Masters degree in Literary Arts. Her new books Thought's of the Broken Self-Soul (2006), Dare I Scream Asylum (2006) and Skin Shed (2006) are extensions of her first book, Journal By the Bedside (2004). This collection of works spans over 20 years, various poetic styles and is definitely a tribute to Rhonda's ability to use poetry in multiple forms. And coming in July 2007, The Wailing Song: Memoir, Journal, and Writing Guide.
All of Rhonda's poems are pulled from her life experience; they are raw, powerful, unique, heart wrenching and complicated dips into emotions most people refuse to talk about. Rhonda was raised by her grandmother (with many siblings and cousins-at times seeing up to 15 people living in her grandmothers home) in a small house in the inner city. Rhonda displayed her anger about not having her parents around through fighting until she met up with a teacher in the 4th grade who taught her that she had an aptitude for using poetry to speak about her emotions. Life did not become magically better, but Rhonda began using her poetry to speak about the pain of her relationship with her parents, rape, spousal abuse, religion, and much more. These books are Rhonda's poetic biography and personal victory.
Excerpt: "The Wailing Song": release July 2007:
A Once Great High
I spent my days with a man
who was not my lover
not my ally
just a man
like many others
like many others
he sunk into my flesh
and set fire to my inner parts
then ransacked my emotions
gone in a moment
or not….
and that was that
lessons unlearned can kill
mother always said
and I continued not to believe
my own stupidity
smoked me out
crashing on a once great high
endless, stupid, dead.
