Did this one in a single afternoon in Tim's dorm room at JMU freshman year. I wanted to experiment with minimalistic guitar percussion; probably my favorite part is the much-too-long, emotional bridge build. The song's not about anyone in particular, also.
I gave you roses
You laughed and smiled, and didn't say anything
My words, like airplanes, could not touch your sky
So I won't say anything
When you wrapped your arms around my neck I
I couldn't say anything
So now I'll sit and think
and smoke a pipe packed tight as my throat because
I miss hearing you say anything
And I'll miss you, my sweet lady, my sweet lady
And I'll wonder what you're dreaming
as my ship is sailing, sailing, sailing, sailing
My sweet lady
My words they stumble
I get so tongue-tied
You can make me say anything
But you laugh and smile, and say that it's all right
and I can say anything
And time works against us
like quiet murder
It's hard to say anything
But I'll miss you, my sweet lady, my sweet lady
And I'll wonder what you're dreaming
as my ship is sailing, sailing, sailing, sailing
My sweet lady
