Rubies are: Simone Rubi sings and plays keyboards and sometimes guitar. Terri Loewenthal plays bass and sings. Amy Cooper plays guitar and sings. Rubies are known to travel around and use players from different cities for an ongoing experiment on sound. Simone Rubi started "Rubies". She had a vision of pure sound and open visions. She is joined by different friends/musicians from both small villages and mammoth cities. Both environments have provided to be endlessly inspiring to Simone and the energy from these places help shape the songs that she creates. When a connection is found, it is captured in it's pure form. Simone started taking piano lessons when she was 8 years old and continued to take them for 10 years. At 17, she begged her teacher to start teaching her some jazz chords after being moved by classic compositions by Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Satie, Debussy and the soul and pop sounds from the 1960's. Today she has integrated that old standard pop style of playing with a more experimental and dancey feel. She started a band "Call and Response" with friends from Santa Barbara, Ca. and recorded two albums with them. With some new inspiration, and a chance to make a record, she started "Rubies" in 2005. Some sounds are danceble folk it has been called, other is organic disco. Creating a new sound that feels like a rock in a pillow. It has angles but the edges are feathery. Simone is joined by Terri Loewenthal on bass who also shares a spot in the musical family "call and response", and Amy Cooper on guitar. Rubies are currently in the studio and very close to finishing their first album and continue to play live whenever desired. Look for a release in the fall of 2007.
