So, I got back from Roscommon in one piece... I think. I may have left a
few brain cells back in the mud filled field. Good craic all the way though. It
was FIERCE Bhoy, needed some stored stamina to keep going. And going it kept.
The Drum n Bass tent ran from 1 in the day until 9 the next morning for two
days straight. The Reggae tent didn't let up either, heavy tunes one after
another, and there was some gonzo films in a cinema tent until some
lunatic decided to drive a tractor through it. No one was killed, adding a miracle
to the events at Mantua.
Super tunes, complimented by a collection of hilarious moments, one
being the Real Street Fighter in a Field. A real life version
of the computer game. Contestants were controlled by hand made
wooden joystick and buttons. The image of two drunken heathens in a
brawl, mimicking Dougal (Father Ted) playing football, was to much. The
fighters had the option to punch, kick, poke and bite and would have to
carry out these motions as and when the person controlling them would
scream instructions to do so.
All in all it measured up to a good show which is hard to believe, considering
the 'state of it' on arrival. The main stage was still in construction when Wiggle
took to the stage. How were excellent, a real pleasure to see. I had no idea
what to expect, but there mix of dub, reggae, techno, loops, beeps and bleeps
was a delight.
The sun came out when the Skatalites appeared, and how appropriate, the
tunes they gave us were deserving off the climate. They went down as well as
the cold beer I was supping on at the time.
I fell asleep and missed the one person I was most excited about seeing, Dj C.
I'm kicking myself... nuff said. I did manage to make it round to see the man that
followed him, Mega Bo, who ripped it up with a wave of heavy bass, Drum n Bass
mixed together with a mountain of Latin beats and pieces. That is until half way
through his set the generator ran out of juice and packed in...back to the d'n'b
tent then so, eh.
Perhaps next year it wont piss down for days before hand, and things will run a little
smoother. Until then, fair fucks to ye's it was a great weekend.
