Martyn & the Front Page

Martyn(Tempa, Soul:R, 3024, Apple Pips), Beckett, Chuck.

The Front Page, Belfast, Saturday 28th June

If you've been paying any attention to drum and bass or dubstep in the last couple of years you will know who this guy is, and we are delighted to be able to bring him to Belfast for what should be a hell of a night of good music.
The rudimentary squadron will be holding it down to start off, getting things going with a blend of dubbed out broken beat, house, techno, dubstep and drum and bass, with the main man given free range to dip into whatever styles he wants.
This one is going to be diverse, deep and unique. Dont miss.

Martyns 3024 Blog

Just in case you dont know who Martyn is:

Dutch-born producer and DJ that first made his mark on the drum 'n bass scene in 2005 with releases on dj Flight's Play:Musik imprint as well as Marcus Intalex' Revolve:r - showing his detroit/chicago schooling and translating it into the realm of 170 bpm. After a few 12"es he took the dnb as well as the dubstep world by surprise with "Broken / Shadowcasting" - a deep dubstep 12" that gained attention from top dj's as kode9, gilles peterson, mr scruff, pole and laurent garnier. After Tempa signed "Everything About You" for their Tempa Allstars series, Martyn continued to produce tracks combining detroit elements with early 2step rhythms, resulting in the launch of his own label 3024 in 2007, and much sought after remixes such as his take on TRG's "Broken Heart" on UK dubstep label Hessle Audio.

Boomkat on his most recent release:
Martyn - All i have is memories / Suburbia (apple pips)

Martyn taps into that dubstep/breakbeat/techno axis that's pushing all the right buttons for us at the moment. A-Side "All I Have Is Memories" is a killer sunshine steppa, employing classic staggered progressions and shimmering keys with a rubbed-out low-end that provides a hefty counterbalance . The real treat is tucked away on the flip, however, "Suburbia" deploying fuzzed out dub chords and 2562-style squashed breaks that employ heaving sounds within a hugely spacious arrangement. The palette and stylistic shifts are borrowed from Jungle, Techno, Garage - pioneering new movements in the continuum with an attention to detail that beggars belief. As far as we're concerned - it just doesn't get any better. Track of the year anyone?
