Space
is
a
need.
Today, I was thinking that I get really claustrophobic sometimes. Not because I'm in an elevator, or because I've been in a plane for a few hours, but because I just don't have space. Not the physical space, but, you know, SPACE.
That mental, emotional (spiritual?) space.
I was thinking about some of the relationships I have now, and honestly, I feel like I'm being pressed on from all sides. It's like, "Dude, I could really use some space right now."
And this isn't because of them, or because of circumstances necessarily, but it's because...it takes a toll.
See, I was thinking that...that it is really about what is grabbing our attention.
When we have people and jobs and assignments and committments that press on us all the time, yes it's part of life, but it can be SUFFOCATING. You feel drained. You feel worn out. You get agitated more easily. Even important things like friendships become burdens.
We see that Jesus took time to have some space. And this didn't mean abandoning his friends, or quitting his job, or dropping out...
to Jesus, it meant going to be ALONE...WITH/IN GOD. With His Father.
The Scriptures talk about how Jesus would often go alone to some place, some mountain, where he could be with the Father. To be alone. To have some space. To be refreshed, to put down the burdens, to take up joy, faith, love, hope...
Space is a need.
Space is something that we need to have, especially when it allows us to become more in tune with God; to live life to the full.
