About

Since initially forming in the back streets of Seoul in May of 2006, Saint John the Gambler has become a band with a diversity of sound mirrored by that of the musicians in it. Hailing from Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States, each of the band members brings with them their own talents and experiences that create the unique blend of indie folk rock, blues, and country that is the signature sound for which SJG is known.

Fronted by Irish singer/songwriter Mark Baker, Saint John the Gambler gets its unique musical color from Gifford Machirus, Kiwi violinist, and Sasha Sheykin from Russia on Accordion. Canadian born electric guitarist Marc Proulx adds to the mix with his own blend of rock and western, as well as his vocal harmonies. Behind them all are drummer and backup vocalist Sean Logan, also from Canada, and new recruit Garan Fitzgerald on standup and electric bass guitar who brings with him the jazz and funk of New York City.

From this kaleidoscope of background and experience, SJG moves effortlessly from poignantly eloquent ballads to explosive and frenzied bursts of energy that dare the audience to try and sit still. Their incredible spirit, infectious energy, and presence on stage combined with the range of their musical backgrounds brings forth the distinct sound that is Saint John the Gambler.
