I use Adobe Illustrator 10. I draw with a wireless mouse (no pen/tablet), using a series of fills. A lot of people assume I take a photo, click on it, and use a Photoshop filter. I should be so smart. It takes me many hours to several days to hand draw each piece. Hopefully, it brings more life than the static forms that the filters create. I've worked as a printmaker/painter since 1977, and I LOVE using the computer to create works.
Most of the subjects in my portraits have attained a certain amount of celebrity. I am fascinated by the notion of what makes someone more "special", more "glittery", than the rest of us. Why do we admire them and emulate them? What does it say about our society and our own personal behavioral and emotional patterns? Regardless of whether they are well-known or not, each one of the people I create portraits of has a remarkable story to tell, and I am honored to attempt to reveal visually their exceptional accomplishments as well as their fascinating personalities.
