The dead make sense of the living

Antonioni, Bergman & Isidore Isou - released from, to forever

Michelangelo Antonioni - We like the move Blow Up because as young photographers, all, we quickly realize that the more we enlarge the image the more blurred and indecipherable it becomes. Because as we all know, placing faith in the mechanical truth of photographic documentation can be a real let down.

Ingmar Bergman, a favorite magician who raised me through highschool to a deeper down understanding that film can be more than entertainment, and spirituality can be expressed through cinema. His films Persona, Wild Strawberries, Fanny & Alexander, Dreams, and Smiles of a Summer Night are favorites that I will now return to upon his passing.

Isidore Isou passed away yesterday at age 89. His work as an avant garde artist/poet and filmmaker influenced much of what we now view as the revolutionary Situationist's movement in France. He called himself a "Lettriste," a movement of which he was initially the only member. His poetry, verbal & visual, breaks down concepts to their phonemic roots, where it seems the individual letter owns the spirit.

He wrote his manifesto at age 16. Excerpt --
"Isou believes in the potential elevation beyond WORDS; wants the development of transmissions where nothing is lost in the process; offers a verb equal to a shock." --
Isou's Manifesto
