New Artist Koyla, mastermind of Russian composer and producer Nickolai Serbryakov, rips into the electronic scene with his slickly produced acid jazz style sound. Not quite what we expect in the demo box these days with everyone going electro mad. However, 25 year old Nickloai from St. Petersburg sent us a selection of his music ranging from downtempo breaks and broken beats to slick disco house.

The production, composition and musicianship was mind-blowing the sound was Jazzy with fresh hooks thus leading Bombay to commit to a whole album project, coming out later this year.

The first single to be taken from the album is 'Promise Land', a solid deep soulful groove created by Koyla. The demo floated around the Bombay I-tunes player for a few weeks and we felt we needed someone to tear this track up. This is where good friend Jrod Indigo comes into play. The San Fran neo-soul singer decides to come into lovely Vancouver to hang for a while at Bombay studio HQ, and that's were the story starts for this track. Jrod writes and lays down his song and creates the Promise Land over Koyla's ripping hooks and players. Everyone is diggin' the direction, Tim Fuller comes in and lays down some backing vocals, in-house producers Sean Dimitrie and Nav take all the parts and put together a B-side. The Awaaz mix takes the track into late night bumpin territory with tripped out ambient textures and hard Detroit style chords. Overall this is a classic style EP with a real organic disco flavour, that will never die for us. Koyla and Jrod are true musicians and deserve the fullest respect in this genre.
