How geeky do you have to be to get this bad?

He saw girls as a unwanted distraction from hacking. Sometimes, after
he chatted with a girl at a party, his friends would later ask him why
he hadn't asked her out. Prime Suspect shrugged it off. The real
reason was that he would rather get home to his computer, but he never discussed his hacking with anyone at school, not even with Mentat.

After reading that paragraph from the book "Underground", I have to feel sorry for the people who get so addicted to computers/the internet that they start to develop an absence of a normal social life.

People nowadays can find it so easy just to move into a social website, meet new people, and then find themselves addicted to their computers. Instead of going out regularly through the week they found themselves regularly in front of a computer thirsting for more "human" interaction.

How much time do you think that you spend talking to people on a computer for just social purposes compared to meeting in person in a week? Is this something that is good for our generation or should we start to change how we life? Is getting addicted to these social websites keeping us mentally unhealthy, or is that just a conspiracy theory? How long should we stay on the computer every day doing these sorts of things before it becomes an addiction?
