Out with the old, in with the new

Yes, the old saying strikes again. For this year, im really going to focus on my blog and tutorials, since starting a day job, I've had to stop most of my client work, but this will give me the opportunity to work on writing tutorials and wordpress scripts etc. to give back to the community.

As you can see, I have my new blog setup on the domain theshaun.com, this blog was provided by what I would call, one of the most talented webdesigners I have ever had the privilage to work with, I'm not 100% complete with the wordpress side of this site, but its coming close.

In the near future I hope to start a section on jQuery as well as sIFR and the likes.

Thats about it for now. But I would like to plug Jon Wheatley's website http://www.j0n.org/ , he is still having his competition with Josh Buckley on being the first to hit 200 RSS readers.

Few more blog roll links, umm, bought a domain, couple of designs, hopefully have them up soonish.

Thats about it for now.

In closing, I'd like to mention SitesFS.com. Its a new site site from Jon showing some hand pick sites that are currently for sale.

Well it has been sometime since my last post, been fairly busy and have never really had much to blog about, but hopefully that will change soon.

Recently i have been coding a CMS system for the local cinema, its been going pretty well, but am running low on time to get it done, after that, me and my business partner will work on setting up our local web dev firm. I'm pretty excited about this, and im fairly certain it will work.

A few other things, will hopefully have my portfolio up "properly", with have my current projects/clients as well as my blog on the main page. And i've now got a VPS, pretty tuff box from Jewlzk. *shameless plug: http://jewlzk.com/vps.php *

So thats about it atm, untill i drive myself to blogging some more.

This Web 2.0 thing

I'm not one to rave on about a subject, but in this case i will. What is with the whole web 2.0 thing? I mean like the only difference is that the sites uses a 'cleaner' layout, and may have a bit of AJAX chucked in, and uses XHTML code. Apart from that its all the same. I see some sites go a bit crazy on the images for every button, its not helping those who are still stuck with the old 56k modem. And these new terms like 'flickr' and sites that have an extra character like 'pagerank22. Although if you are obsessed with the Web 2.0 age, visit web2.0foru.ms and share you love for it.

Browsers

Why can't anyone agree on a standard? They have W3C to base it off, so why cant they just get along? IE would have to be the worst one ive come across when dealing with compatablility for code. You get it all working nice and fine in both FireFox and Opera, and you go to check it out in IE, and some list is off by a few pixels.

Graphics Design

Yet another render. This one is using Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, and a small bit of Apopysis. The crazy swirls came out like that by using a Max plugin called 'greeble', the water drop type things in the corners is all Photoshop, using different effects.

Click on the image for a better resolution picture.

Domain for Sale

I am currently selling ImgHost.net on TalkFreelance, the thread can be seen here.

Other things

TalkPHPBB - Not sure how sucessful it will be, but it will be a good challenge. I've never started a forum before so I reackon i will learn alot about it. I'm hoping to open it just after PHPBB3 final release is out. Design and domain is ready, just needs uploading and fixing the forums up.

TurnkeyFind - Yet another interesting one. Basicully just a directory/search engine for TurnKey scripts. Will have some ad places for Turnkey script providers, and maybe one Google Adsense ad. I recently saw on (tf) someone selling a site similar to my idea. Hopefully mine goes just as good if not better. No design as of yet, waiting for some money to come in from the last Wordpress theme coding.

TutDen - Yes still working on it. Just had it moved to another server, but the version they copied over is an older one. So thats going to require reuploading some files. But all in all, its nearly done.

A New Year

Well, it seems a new year is here, and so this year i will try to post a bit more often. Finally i am going to get around to starting a few sites, and in doing so, i am trying to get into design.
iDevCore:

Well as most of you know, this is my portfolio site, not much on it at the moment, but that will change. I am giving it a face lift as well as moving my blog over to it. Its going to be split into 3 sections, Work, Play and Blog. Un-unique yes, but a nice way to split the site. I have designed a page for the splash, and can be seen here.
The other sections are as below:

Work

Play

Blog

XhtmlCode:

This site will go ahead, i have already drafted up a plan for its layout and content structure, more info will be available soon, including a design when i get to it. I dont want to give too much away early.

TurnkeyFind:

Not sure how successful this one will be, and im sure that there are plenty of turnkey based 'search' sites out there. Basically a database will listings of free and paid turnkey scripts that are available, with premium links for 'paying linkers'.
TalkPHPBB:

Still waiting for the final release of PHPBB3, hopefully its not too far away

More news on sites soon

Xhtml Code Design

I've recently finished designing xhtmlcode's main page, it can be seen here. I'll add the subpages soon.

iDevcore is coded as well, only a few minor things need sorting out.

Here is a basic structure for the site:

XHTML Snippets:

DOCTYPE's

Different basic layouts

List of all Xhtml valid tags

Examples of where certain tags should, and should not be used

User snippet area. Users can add snippets and can be commented on.

System should be flexible to allow for multiple categories, a search engine allowing for tag search or phrase search.

User's should be able to vote and rate techniques to allow for more compliant techniques to be rated higher.

XHTML Forum:

Using the Vanilla for its simplicity and 'to the point' discussion, will allow users to converge in discussion about XHTML coding techniques, as well as ask for support about making their sites work properly in all major browsers without requiring too many browser hacks.

Possible forum categories

Xhtml Help

Xhtml Discussion

Thats about it for now. Next design will be for turnkeyfind. Still writing the site structure for that

The "tag" game

Well, I went onto IRC today, only to find out that I have been tagged by Dread. For those that do not know this ridiculous time wasting known as "5 things you didn't know about me" has been going around the blog community, you basically are "tagged" and then you say 5 things about yourself that others didn't know, then you tag other people.

So, here I go:

The 5 things you didn't know about me

I live in a fairly big family of 8, my mother, father, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Yes, I am the eldest.

I'm a fan of action films and series, i.e. 007 Series, Rush Hour, Stargate (yes I love the stuff), etc...

I really enjoy music, I listen to it all the time, helps me concentrate, I find it hard working without background music.

I have second degree burns on the back of one of my hands, I get asked by everyone that see it what happened. It happened when I was about 2 or 3 years old, I was in the back of dads ute(4 wheel drive). He was drying the back with an element heater that was sitting on the floor of the vehicle, it had turned off from the thermostat and the phone ran, so dad ran for it, somehow the element heater came back on, and I somehow ended hand first into it, enough for it to make the skin on the hand bubble. So, I got rushed to the hospital and the nurse told me to keep my hand straight, of course, being a little boy, I didn't, and in doing so, I am able to move my hand like any normal person, because of the stretching of the skin. I have uploaded a picture, its pretty dodgy as its from my web cam.

I have a girlfriend. Some of you know this, others don't. She means a lot to me. We live a few hours away from each other, and my car isn't that reliable so we usually rely on the phone and msn for communication.

So there we go, the list of 5 things you didn't know about me. And I am tagging Mark Paton, and Roland De La Cruz Jr.

Updates

Just a quick update on xhtmlcode.com, the design for the main page is nearly coded, and I have decided not to preview the other pages till the site is near ready for release.

Also, selling a few domains on TalkFreelance, they can be seen here.

Been busy with things in life and have been neglecting this blog and a few other things in the process. I few things are new.

Not going to set xhtmlcode.com as a resource site anymore, just going to install wordpress on it and write a few tutorials every now and then.

Been working on a site re-haul for my host.

Changed to Ubuntu 6.10(Edgy), awsome operating system, i love it.

And have a new blog theme, and have updated to wordpress2..

And thats about it for a bit till i finish sorting ubuntu out and finishing some work

I know I know, there have been many social networking sites that have tried to get the same attention as MySpace and Facebook, but none of them have really come close, well not from what i've seen till now. Meet Virb, the next greatest social site since MySpace :p

So, what is Virb all about? An extract from Virb's "About Us" page states this:

Virb is a community website that combines social interaction with music and entertainment exploration. It's a great way to keep in touch and meet people with similar interests. Use Virb to discover music, videos, cool companies and organizations... then share what you find with your friends.

So basicully, MySpace with a few extras, and the awsome power of the behind the scenes team that also created Purevolume.

Virb's theme is a lot more appealing then MySpace's and is what i can see, faster, not many ads, and really user friendly, not to mention:

Flickr Feeds

Custom Modules

Hardly any ads (did I mention that before?)

As well as a few good features coming soon, including Blog imports (RSS feeds to your blog)

Well, as far as I can see, Virb has a pretty strong chance of giving old MySpace a run for its money
