the corporate. I work in insurance, what’s called commercial catastrophe business – I insure major corporations against things like earthquake damage and fire with multi-million dollar accounts, places and businesses I wish I could tell you about - but there’s a non-disclosure agreement with my name on it. I’ve already said too much.

the aesthetic. I’ve always had a passion for music, and aspirations of writing. In another life I was an artist, chalk pastels and charcoal mostly, but I stopped showing people my work and the motivation faded. I also have a secret desire to someday publish philosophy papers that prove my thoughts on time and existence. and to learn French.

the absurdly cliche. on the plane back from LAX, a woman went into cardiac arrest a few seats behind me. The pilot gets on the speaker and makes the announcement: “Is there a doctor on board?” and there actually was a doctor on the flight. Who knew things like this really happened? Yesterday, a city transformer blew and we lost power in our office building. People were trapped in the elevators, and I had to call the fire department. again. Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of a made for television movie, or a poorly written sitcom.

the personal. It’s been hard having my closest relatives live three thousand miles away and stressful with everything that’s been going on - I think staying in Seattle was the right decision though, and I’m really glad I have friends I can count on to be there for me. You guys have really been incredible.

the future. Within a few years I see myself living in a high rise loft downtown in a big city, falling in love, and winning the lottery. Lately I’ve felt close enough to taste it - but I somehow end up alone, half an hour north, and two numbers short (apparently matching 4 out of 6 numbers is only 30 bucks).

the obsessions. there’s a TV show I can’t get enough of right now – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
