"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

a) I have a huge man-crush on Mike Rowe and b) this is the best TED talk I've seen.
An excellent summary of Build. It truly was a great time and I'm honored to have been a part of it.

"Get the full story on Apple's environmental footprint." A beautiful site with lots of great info. It's really nice to see such a large company go out of their way to be responsible.

"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie collaborate with photographer Steven Klein to create a portfolio of images for W Magazine." 33 amazing images! Very Mad Men. (via LBM)
"The Echo Park Time Travel Mart has joined together with the Federation for the Advancement of Time to create this beautiful poster series. No matter when you live, it's always the right time for good temporal citizenship!" Love. Want.

Watch the trailer for Gentlemen Broncos, a new film by Jared Hess. I'm excited to see Jermaine do some non-Jermaine comedic acting as a "popular science fiction author". Also, don't miss the Chevalier shorts, The Art of Inspiring Oneself and The Art of Relaxing or Chevalier's web sanctum.

Yummy. I love the subtle variations in the label badges and typography for each liquor.

Gallery 1988 (L.A.) is presenting an art show where "100 artists pay tribute to classic cult films" until August 8. There is so much fantastic art in here, it's hard to pick just one. But, I chose "Founding Members Of The SICTT (Society Of In Control Time Travelers)" by Nathan Stapely. Other notables are a Donnie Darko figurine, family drawings of the Plainviews/Torrances and a glorious UHF poster by Tom Whalen. I think my brain exploded.

Some illustrations commissioned for Youth In Revolt—Michael Cera's new movie with Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, et al—by Mike Thompson. The direction: "keep the art vibrant and make sure Cera looks as nerdy as possible".

"I’m far more likely to get 15 one-star reviews when something goes wrong than I am to get 15 five-star reviews when everything goes right." Garrett gets incredibly lucid when he gets angry. I hope someone at Apple is reading this.

Now *that* is how you do advertising. Absolutely brilliant. (I'd still buy an Audi A4 before a BMW M3, so...)

Perched atop a ridgeline in the Hollywood Hills of L.A., this house is a bit pompous but awesomely ridiculous. "Come on over for movie night, guys — we'll watch it ON MY HOUSE."

The most mesmerizing, enchanting and moving book I've read in a good long time. I've noted a couple of my favorite passages here, here and here. The way Connolly captures young David coping with the death and eventual absence left by his mother is heartbreakingly sad and beautiful.

Tangible gives Pitchfork a lovely makeover. It used to be frustratingly difficult to find content. No more. Ilikeit. (via Rubin)
Very classy. I still prefer some of Ffffound's more ghetto UX solutions, but the collage thumbnail view is too bomb. Brought to you by the talented Canadian gentlemen at Teehan+Lax.

I was a bit skeptical at first (only one 2nd round pick!), but I faith in Belichick and his personnel track record. Besides, it's really more of a late 1st round pick and every Patriots fan knows how much stock the organization puts in 1st round talent. For the money, it's essentially Russian roulette. Now, we're $14.7 million dollars and one post-prime linebacker freer, while sitting on the 23, 34, 47 and 58 picks in the draft, which hopefully all go to rebuilding an ailing and decrepit defense.
