"It's all about innovation for this five piece band from Richmond who describes themselves as Experimental/Southern Rock/ Rock. If Experimental is being used to describe a full frontal assault on your ears than this statement is true. Innovation and originality is the message of Since 1913, a message that they deliver with blistering intensity. Chaotic, grinding guitar riffs, combined with a lyrical delivery perhaps best described as direct, Since 1913 is giving the metal community in Richmond mouth to mouth. Drawing from influences such as Fear Before The March of Flames, Botch, Scarlet and Spitfire, Since 1913 is not afraid to express their distaste for the place that metal holds in Richmond. Their live show is explosive, and demands attention, not only for originality but also because a side conversation during a Since 1913 set is an impossibility. Despite their almost activist perspective on making a place for metal in Richmond, the band in no way take themselves too seriously. The inspiration for their name came from a camel cigarette poster outside Alley Katz. Their writing style is simple, feeding off each other until they are satisfied with the outcome, making songs that they themselves would want to hear. Since 1913's mentality on making music is having fun and to always be creating something entirely new instead of "recycling" the sounds of bands already in existence. Aligned with fellow hardcore act The Jefferson Plane Crash, Since 1913 is putting metal back into the Richmond vocabulary."

"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know." (Vladimir Nabokov)
