Hello there!
You are now visiting me probably because you know my music, or because you want to know how I sound.
If this is your first visit here, please listen to some of the tunes I've put here. And no, there's nothing wrong with the playlist; I've tried to sum up some of the things I have made, or contributed on. So you will hear all kinds of sounds: pop, contemporary classical, country, improvisations and so forth. Hopefully there'll be at least one track you like. If not, try listen once more.

I update this site as often I can, so keep visiting me! If you want to cantact me, press here

This list presents what I do, and some things I've done:

I compose, and write arrangements.

Acoustic Accident
Ever changing ensemble, with me as leader. First record released some years ago, as a large ensemble (15 musicians). Next record is in progress, and will show some changes both in style and ensemble. It will probably be released sometime in spring 2009. The musicians: Eivind Lønning (trp), Espen Reinertsen (sax,fl), Morten Engebretsen (bcl), Sigrun Eng (vcl), Jo Berger Myhre (bs), Pål Hausken (dr) and me (gt).

Rockettothesky
Just listen to the album: "To sing you apple trees" (TrustMe records).

Navyelectre
The music of Jonas H. Sjøvaag; brilliant noisepop. Check out: Navyelectre - The Mourning

Mattis Myrland
This guy is a never ending source to great songs and sounds. Together we are slowly producing his music, you'll hear some of it within this fall. You should be carefull with his songs; in their strangeness they immediatly glue to your ears. And they'll stay there.

Florebius
A lovely jazz quintet. We play mainly our own songs, but who says we can't do Kraftwerk, Nirvana, Schumann? Please check out our album "House of flour" (on Jazzaway records). Band members: Eivind Lønning (trp), me (git), Martin Taxt (tba), Terje Engen (dr) & Lena Nymark (voc, sax, fl)

Her real name is Jessica Sligter, an immigrant from Holland here in Norway. She sings beautiful. The rest of the band is Daniel Meyer Grønvold and me. Listen to her solo-recordings here on virb! We'll do some conserts this year, and record new songs. And in may we're recording together. You'll love it.

LUN
A group consisting of dancers and musicians. Made shows and chaos since 1999.

[sic!]
A monthly concert consept arranged by me and Håvard Volden at Sagene Kulturverksted in Oslo. Come listen, you'll never hear it again.

And I play solo concerts, and do impro conserts with nice people.

Fantastic reviews for HLA May 15, 2008

In January I joined the HLA orchestra in a small studio on Norways west-coast; Oceanside studio. It was a really nice happening, the recording session. And I felt the tunes turned out great. Now all the Norwegian reviewers hail this album as her best, and an album …

Thom Hell's new record - success Apr 16, 2008

I just noticed that Thom Hell (or Thomas Helland) was rated on 5th place of the Norwegian Top 20-list. I'm happy for him, his music, and of course for my string arrangements to contribute in his apparently big success in his release. Check out the album, you'll …

Recieved travel fundings Apr 16, 2008

I recently recieved a pleasent note that I got this grant, allowing me to travel and visit/have lessons with one my favorite composers: Carola Bauckholt. I will visit her in Cologne in medio June, listen to her new stage piece on the Witten-festival. After that I …

Choir piece performance in May Apr 16, 2008

After finnishing this piece, which originally was composed for a project choir in Berlin ( 1. of July), I thought it would be appropriate to also have a Norwegian performance. Solistkoret, which is one Norway's best choirs, wanted to perform it 17th of May this …

Thom Hell's new album"God if I saw her now" Mar 3, 2008

Yesterday Thom gave me, and the other contributers on the recording, his new-and-still-warm record. It's one of finest song collections I've heard in a long time. I have made 5 string arrangements on it, and I must admit they sound great after being produced and …

Does the body make sense? Sep 3, 2007

The singer Silje Aker Johnsen comissioned this piece this spring. It was premiered on the 29.08, with Kristine Tjøgersen on clarinet and Wendy Greenberg on percussion. I was beyond impressed by their performance, I hope you'll like it to. The piece has simple …

What's happening?

Another year! All of this bla-blaing is only FWIMC...

Composing/Arranging:
I will not be composing as much this year as last year. Nevertheless, I have some interesting things to work on. In january I'm collaborating with Lars Horntveth on some orchestral arrangements for the music and performence of Martin Hagfors. The Norwegian Broadcast/Radio Orchestra (don't know the English translation: KORK) is going to perform it with Hagfors' excellent band in february. It's litterary going to be big! Check out the forthcomming album of his, Lars has produced it. And it's fantastic.
Later I'm going to compose music to the words and vocal performance of Jonas Sjøvaag. The music will be performed by the new sinfonietta Ensemble neoN, which composer Julian Skar and me has established. I believe this singer-/songwriter/spoken word/contemporary music blend is a rare thing; I'm really looking forward to it. I think (90% sure) it'll be performed in october.
Ensemble neoN will do another interesting consert, hopefully late 2009/early 2010. Julian and I will arrange songs of/with a certain famous and brilliant Norwegian artist (I'm not allowed to mention name yet), in a combining concert with a commissioned work by Ole-Henrik Moe. This as an attempt of combining audiences; not as a cross-over concept. Needless to say, you should come.
The piece "Play me", which I wrote for the percussionist Wendy Greenberg last year (2008), is going to be performed a couple of times during this year also (in february, and some time in the fall). I'm really proud of this piece.

Playing & producing:
This spring I'm producing the next record of Torgeir Vassvik, an extraordinary and peculiar Norwegian singer, or rather sami singer. He's got a musicality you rarely find! Kyrre Laastad og Jo Berger Mhyre are joining us in studio, top notch. Look out for release automn 2009.
Speaking of sami singer, I'm also doing some concerts with Elin Kåven. She releases her debut album some time this year (2009), produced by the well known trumpet player Ole Jørn Myklebust.
In addition to quite a few concerts with Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen, I'm also going on tour with Jessica Slighter. And Mattis Myrland. I'll fill in the "shows" dates when I get the time to update this page.
When I have even more time I'm finnishing my own project: the sequel album of Acoustic Accident. Most of the recording is done, but it still needs a bit more sugar.

And remember: if you do not smile, you end up dangling.
