So I was thinking about survival guides. Whether it's the army's manual for how to survive in the desert or just the silly game, there's tons of information out there on how to survive things. But have you ever noticed that not all of the advice seems logical? For instance, when faced with a bear, it is recommended that you make yourself as big as possible, hold your hands in the air, and yell "BEAR" as loud as you can. That's supposed to scare the bear away. Great. So now we know what to do when that happens.
But what is my instinct? To run. Even if the expert says not to.
Which do I choose? Do I trust the expert advice and face the bear? Or do I duck and run?
It hit me that I do the same thing with the Bible. The expert has told me how to handle everything. And yet I so often question his expertise and rely on my own instincts. God's way and the world's way are not often the same--and God's way rarely seems "logical."
Why is it that we so desire someone to tell us exactly how to handle a situation, but even when they do, we question it. Hmm...
Do you trust the ultimate survival guide? Really?
