CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS (DEADLINE 11th APRIL).
Sometimes... Presents: Two Anthologies.
In the '08 our sister project Sometimes... Records plan to release two anthologies of sound recordings, released in July to coincide with Our Annual Extravaganza at GreenRoom, in which they give us the theatre and we give you a good night out.
1.
An Anthology of Short Recordings.
Volume I.
Local.
Testifying to the Virtues of Brevity and Concision, the Anthology of Short Recordings is an invitation to contribute an audio recording (less than 59 seconds) of anything at all, be it your band, your family, friends people you know, field recording, found recording, noise, with a short description of the recording or accompanying photograph, sketch or drawing.
Volume I. (Local) Is an invitation that we encourage you to forward to your Friends, Friends of Friends, People You know, People You've Heard Live.
(A Volume II. Global. will be planned for late 2008, early 2009, depending).
2.
Happened Upon With Microphones.
A Volume II.
Yes in the '05 we released 'Happened Upon With Microphones', in a bespoke lever-out CD case with a handsome wrap-around sleeve designed by Mike Fallows of A-M, featuring recordings of: a 90th Birthday Party (in Liverpool), The Metro (in Manchester), Music for Chinese Dancing (in Chinatown Manchester), a Loom (in Scotland), Flamenco (in Spain), some Sealions (in California).
A Volume II. is an invitation to anyone to contribute a field recording, along with a short description of the site / place / journey in which the recording was made and / or an accompanying photograph, sketch or drawing.
PRESS RECORD. PLAYBACK. UPLOAD. SEND (AS MP3) TO ME
simon_bowes@hotmail.co.uk in an email Marked either 'SHORT' or 'FIELD'
Logistical / aesthetic things we have thought about so far:
a) The original recording can be as lo-fi or hi-tech as you like but should be submitted as an Mp3 file at 128kbps, b) IN THE CASE OF 2. (HUWM AV.II) the recordings should not be processed, heavily edited, or otherwise interfered with, c) the full Anthologies will be made available on self-released, limited-edition CDR (in a sexy outfit), any money made will cover costs or will be put towards future Sometimes... projects, d) abridged versions of the anthology with accompanying design & artwork will be made available for free on the internet e) everyone who contributes gets a free copy of the Anthologies, f) contributions can be solicited by word-of-mouth, tell your friends, like someone on Myspace? Invite them to contribute... g) the actual recordings will probably be hosted at www.achive.org, an amazing resource which you should check out, governed by Creative Commons License.
Anything else you think we should think about, let us know.
Please send a reply email saying "YES" if you would like to register an interest.
And Please Fwd to Anyone you Think might be Interested.
