SY LIVE IN JAPAN, CHINA, AND AT COACHELLA
In April, Sonic Youth travel to Japan for shows in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo (Tokyo is now sold out). Following are the band's first two shows ever in China: Beijing and Shanghai. On their way back East, SY will make an apparation at Coachella in Indio, California.
SY TOURING THE USA AND EUROPE THIS SUMMER- RUSSIA ADDDED
Sonic Youth are excited to announce their first concerts in 18 years in Russia: June 18 in St. Petersburg and June 19 in Moscow. Already announced in Europe are dates (some performing the 'Daydream Nation' album) in Spain, Poland, Germany, France and Switzerland as details of a Summer European Tour begin to shape up. Daydream will be in the US at the Pitchfork Music Festival on July 13, with shows on July 19 at the Berkely Community Theater in Berkeley, CA and July 20 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles to follow. Sonic Youth will perform 'Daydream Nation' live on August 30 and 31 and September 1 at the Roundhouse in London as Part of the Don't Look Back series of concerts. DAYDREAM DELUXE
Sonic Youth are putting the finishing touches on the 2xCD/4xLP Deluxe Edition of 'Daydream Nation' with an expected release this summer. Keep your eyes here for more info.
"THE DESTROYED ROOM: B-SIDES AND RARITIES" AVAILABLE NOW
The Destroyed Room: B-sides And Rarities, a band-chosen collection of near-hidden Sonic Youth gems, is now available on Geffen Records. The album brings together songs from throughout the band's career with Geffen, focusing on tracks previously available only on vinyl, limited-release compilations, or as b-sides to international singles. The tracks were hand picked by the band and also include material that has never before been released. Complete tracklist and more info here. A double vinyl LP edition is now available on the band's own Goofin' Records label. The vinyl features two bonus tracks: 'Doctor's Orders (T vox)' and 'Is it my Body?' and is available April 3.
SONIC ON THE SOPRANOS
'I Dreamed I Dream' from the 'Sonic Youth' EP will be used in the soundtrack of the popular television program 'The Sopranos.' The episode first airs on April 29.
RATHER RIPPED VIDEOS
Seven videos for four songs from SY's latest 'Rather Ripped' are now available for viewing on the sy.com video page. Director Braden King brings videos for 'Do You Believe in Rapture?' and 'Reena' from footage shot at CBGB's this summer. Director Claire Denis offers a video for 'Incinerate' and 4 alternate videos for 'Jams Run Free.' Enjoy.
SONIC YOUTH: "RAPTURE" AS ART
"Do You Believe in Rapture?", a music video directed by Braden King as an elegy for New York's recently closed CBGB, has been screening at film festivals around the world, including the Rotterdam Film Festival, the SF Noise Pop Festival, and the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival. Next up are the Indie Lisboa Festival and the 2007 Viennale King also directed a video for the single "Reena": both songs are from the most recent Sonic Youth album "Rather Ripped" and can be seen on the sy.com video page.

VERA CLUB GRONINGEN BOOK AND DVD
'Rockin on Paper' is a 320 page full color history on the Vera Club and it's posters. This book contains more than 300 of the archived posters from the early years through 2005 plus an historical overview of the Club and some personal memories of some memorable performances. Interviews with: Lee Ranaldo, Mick Collins, Lou Barlow, Kim Gordon, David Yow, Ross Knight. Text is in both Dutch and English. With the book comes a DVD containing original live footage shot at and by the VERA Club itself including performances by: Sonic Youth (6 songs), the Gun Club, Monster Magnet, Dead Moon, Giant Sand, Sebadoh, Cosmic Psychos, the Gories, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Dinosaur jr. and Beat Happening. DAYDREAM NATION 33 1/3
After delays, a real-deal release date has finally been set for Matthew Stearnes' installment on Daydream Nation for Continuum Books' 33 and 1/3 series. In March of '07, you'll be able to find bound copies of the volume in unsucky book and record shops across the land, and through the SY online store. In the meantime, an excerpt from the book has been posted on the series' blog.

SONIC YOUTH S/T, CICCONE YOUTH AND PSYCHIC HEARTS RE-ISSUES OUT NOW
Re-issues of 'Sonic Youth', 'The Whitey Album' by Sonic Youth alter-ego Ciccone Youth and Thurston Moore's 'Psychic Hearts' will all be released March 14, 2006. All three records feature an updated mastering supervised by the band and Sonic Youth's eponymous record features never-before-heard live and studio tracks and notes by drummer Richard Edson, Neutral record label founder Glenn Branca and Byron Coley. The CD editions of these records will be on Geffen/UMe while the vinyl editions will be on the SY's own Goofin' records. Vinyl editions of all 3 re-issues are now available here. The Psychic Hearts 2xLP vinyl edition contains a full side of bonus tracks not on the CD edition.
