So... eh... happy (belated) New Year. Bit of a mad start to 2009 but big thanks to all who passed by our NYE event at Bedroom Bar with the OK-MA lads. A fortnight on its all a bit of a blur, but it was a great party and our guests Scrimshire and Cigarettes and Sunshine absolutely killed it in the back room with an assorted mix of classics and musical delights. Expect more from them (and us) this year.

During the holiday season, we managed to do a bit of website tweaking and you've probably noticed by now the new front page, complete with audio player. We've been a bit slack on the music side of things as of late, but hopefully we'll finally get some time to lay down some mixes again. In the meantime, check a little exclusive mix that

Well its been a bit of a random year for us, with lots of high and lows but as we head into 2009 things are looking a little rosier, certainly from this side of the fence anyhow. We're still struggling with sporadic internet access so messages have been a little lacking of late, but let me assure you we're still beavering away behind the scenes where possible to get things sorted for the new year and beyond. In the meantime, we've sorted out one last party for 2008 for enjoyment, so if you're out and about in London this New Year's Eve and are looking for a night of good quality music, a nice vibe and a family of friends, we might just have something for you...

In order to kick start 2009 in the right way, we decided to hook up with the OK_Ma boys to bring you a little something something at another of our favourite venues, the Bedroom Bar.

SOUL-IDENTITY MUSIC PRESENTS A SUPA SOUL SOUNDCLASH W/ SPECIAL GUESTS AIN'T NO NEW THING.

Yep, yep... its that time again. This Friday, we return to the Barrio after a two month absence for a supa soul soundclash of epic proportions. Joining us in the box this month will be the residents of one of London's newest club nights, master Rhodesman and DJ in his own right, Mr Adam Scrimshire of Wah Wah 45s fame (Making his second appearance at the Barrio fact fans), and connoisseur of all things soulful, jazzy and funky Mr Sid Ford (File Under Jazz).

Musically, expect a mixed bag of goodness incorporating everything from classic funk, jazz and underground disco through to the eclectic rhythms of bossa nova, Latin boogaloo and Nuyorican soul. As with all soundclashes, the aim of the game this time around will be for each DJ duo to out do the other

soul-identity music presents JC (HERE & NOW RECORDINGS)

It's that time again as the soul-identity Music bandwagon rolls into the Barrio for another night of fun, frolics and exceedingly good music. This month we welcome the very special talents of JC who runs the soul, funk, jazz, Latin and Afrobeat influenced imprint Here and Now Recordings.

Home to an assorted roster of artists comprising of Yam Who?, Funkanala, Motivators (who feature Manu Dibango's rhythm section) plus new signings DJD and Chaz Jankel (with Angie Brown on vocals!), Here and Now Recordings are firmly committed to providing credible soul and jazz influenced dancefloor music. After making a serious impact by licensing the Funkanala anthem "Economy Class" to Defected for their Miami compilation, the label hasn't looked back with their releases gaining DJ support from the likes of Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen, Shuya Okino, Patrick Forge, Danny Krivit, Spiritual South, Kev Beadle and Seiji.

In the midst of celebrating the release of Record #4 (Motivators' "Jobu / Le Groove De Prune" - fact fans), JC will be joining the soul-identity residents on the night to spin a mixed bag of dancefloor friendly business incorporating everything from New York City funk and disco boogie, Latin Afro breaks and beats, through to nu soul and future bruk basslines.

soul-identity music presents JOE DAVIS (FAR OUT RECORDINGS)

The soul-identity crew's monthly homage to all things Latin, Brazilian and broken returns, with Far Out Recordings head honcho Joe Davis guesting.

Joe's commitment to exposing Brazilian music over the years could be argued as crucial to the increased world-wise credibility and popularity of Brazilian music. Over the years the roll-call of artists who have recorded for the label reads like a who's who of Brazilian music - Marcos Valle, Joyce, Azymuth, Milton Nascimento, The Ipanemas, Celia Vaz - the list goes on.

Meanwhile the list of musicians who have remixed and worked the Far Out catalogue is a guide to the producers cutting it in the leftfield scene: Spiritual South, 4Hero, Seiji (Bugz in the Attic), Jazzanova, Osunlade, Da Lata, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Roni Size, Incognito, Troubleman and Masters At Work have all provided classic re-interpretations and killer dub plates.

The soul-identity crew present a "carnavale especial", as we kick off the Rio carnival weekend in style. Joining the boys on the night this month, will be DJ Koh Uemura of K54 fame.

It's all about Brazil this month, as the architect of one of 2007's hottest re-edits digs deep into his collection to supply a barrage of uptempo breaks and basslines from the City of God and beyond. Expect samba-soul and funk, heavy batucadas and a few other surprises. Admission (as always) is FREE.
