Very true summary of some of the most inconsistent, mind boggling, or just annoying UX issues with the iPhone UI. "The worst example of this is the Recent Calls list. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally called someone when what I wanted to do was get more details about the call. " And why, despite all this, the iPhone is still so incredibly successful.
This is an interesting sketch technique for thinking through flows without having to adhere to the formal standard flow syntax. I like it.
"Search Engine Optimization is not a legitimate form of marketing. It should not be undertaken by people with brains or souls. If someone charges you for SEO, you have been conned."
I hate all these things as well, but I still love my iPhone. I also hate the flow for placing a phone call from the contacts screen (click the person, then click the number) vs. the Recents screen (clicking the person calls them.) It's confusing. A number of other little things, too... but still. The positives far outweigh these annoying little gripes.
Since I've started using CS4 (and two monitors) I've noticed more color discrepancies between web images and the same images opened in Photoshop than I ever have before. This article explains some of the differences Adobe made to color management in the latest Creative Suite versions, and how to set yourself up for success when designing for screens. It's complicated — you used to be able to just "turn color management off" and be fine.
Guide to getting the most out of living in San Francisco. I want to love it here, so I'm willing to embrace this guide as fully as possible. But I doubt I'm going to get a bike.
I've only been in SF a few months, and I find myself agreeing with everything said here, both positive and negative. I'm still willing to make the best of it, because all the positives noted with an "if that's your thing" are, at this time, "my thing." There are negatives to every place, and it's important to acknowledge them and consider if you're willing to live with them for the benefit of the positives.

Beautiful conceptual redesign of the iPhone home screen. I hope someone at Apple is listening.

This was posted a while back, but it's worth revisiting. Nice way to organize design thoughts and brainstorming from Adaptive Path.

Very good point. I think we all have been guilty of designing around a story as if it were hard data. "While anecdotes can help guide us toward the right questions, the answers we ultimately use should come from data."

Nice bold statement from one small Seattle business about their take on the national health care issue. Love that they're willing to take a stand like this. Most of the comments so far are also thought-provoking and well-written. (Most, not all.) Worth a read.

I was just thinking how cool it would be if Tweetie on my iPhone at least showed new @replies on the application badge. Then I saw the post about Simplytweet on Daring Fireball and discovered an app that does that and a whole lot more! Trying out the lite version now, will probably buy the full app if I like it ($5)

As I'm currently working on my half-finished portfolio, I found this 30-minute screencast by Elliot Jay Stocks on building a portfolio site to be very informative and helpful. There's some great information about a lot of different topics here, not just portfolio site building. For example, scroll in about 20 minutes and again to 29 minutes for information about designing to a grid. I really enjoyed seeing the photoshop files, guides, and the backing structure of his site before he added the texture and images. Really nice to see how other designers set up their files. Also great to hear reasoning behind some of his design decisions.

Quick article about Locavore and other food-related iPhone apps. I love food, and love having information about the things I love at my fingertips.

"How do UX people measure burndown?"
As a UX designer in a software design team that uses Agile Scrum, I enjoyed this post about what UX has to offer Agile. We don't really "burndown" on problems, we ask how we can improve things, often drumming up work to the end goal of improving the product for its users.
Funny site documenting the hilarious things an illustrator's 4-year-old daughter says about his art.
I like Virb a lot. The latest version pretty much does everything I'm doing at sourjayne.com, plus comments and archives. I'm considering making sourjayne.com my Virb profile.
I found this post so interesting I had to bookmark it, and this begins my bookmarking adventure.
