Year in Review: 2009

It's that time again, kids. Time to review the past year. This time, I'm kind of ashamed to admit, it's not as super awesome as last year, or probably as I thought this year would be.

But some things were awesome about it.

Note: This is a rough draft. I got sick of writing it near the halfway point. And I want to add pictures later. But I'm too tired/lazy right now. So this will be updated. Right now, it's VERY rough.

January:

The year started off well enough, with a sleepover at Angie's. It involved me sleeping on one half of her couch, with Ian on the other half, Dave in one room, and Angie and Suzi in the other, and Dave and me yelling back and forth to each other all night about Hannah Montana and other various things that he would probably be embarrassed for me to broadcast publicly. It was hilarious!!! And then we got dressed and had breakfast at Perkins. It was super fun.

BUT then, I went home, and the next morning I woke up feeling kind of weird. I felt kind of sick, so I made the executive decision to call off work. It was good that I did, because I spent the better part of the day vomiting. Which NEVER happens to me. Before that, I don't think I had thrown up in like 5-10 years. Seriously. It was ridiculous. So then I called off the next day, also. And THEN I found out that I lost my pay for New Years Day because I called off the day following... so that just was awful. I got paid for 2 days that week.

Going through the pictures I took in January, it also involved: Snow, Hannah Montana Kleenex, seeing Paul Blart with Christy, NELF at the Keystone mall, a hangout session with Kyle and Anna (most likely a marathon of The Office), Busso visiting and going swing dancing with me at Cafe Agapé (which of course means that the whole being-into-that-one-guy and TRYING to be friends with him but him ignoring me like a jerk and me therefore deciding he wasn't worth my time because I deserve better than that thing happened in January), laser-tag with Lauren, Shane, and Sasha, meeting up at Bazbeaux for dinner with Jessie, Kristin, Curt, Cara, and Ryan, AND Susan's taco party (where the infamous picture of the hand-on-my-face was taken). I also remember that January involved my watching American Idol for the first time.

February:

- Super Bowl party at Ron and Carrie's, for which I made hash brown casserole but tried using a crock pot, which proved to be a mistake. It still tasted alright, though. Also, one of the best episodes of The Office EVER was on after the Super Bowl!!! It was amazing.

- Shane, Lauren, Sasha, Suzi, Sheryl and I started having our game nights on Monday nights, which was pretty cool.

- Saw He's Just Not That Into You with Christy, and took pictures of her kicking Bradley Cooper in the face on the poster outside of the movie theater because he's a lying, cheating pig of a man.

- My mom sent me pretty flowers, and I took pictures of that and a yellow rose that I got from Gregor... and in that same album, I have a picture of Christy using a plastic lid on a regular glass at Noodles & Co., which at the time was about a weekly tradition (And somehow we stopped? How did that happen? I think we should start that back up.) Also, pictures of Susan and I jumping in her apartment. Which probably means we were watching High School Musical 3.

- Slumdog Millionaire with Christy, which I decided we should see after watching it sweep out The Oscars. And we were so happy we did!

- Mardi Gras party!!! This was AWESOME. I didn't expect anyone to come, because I had a limited list of guests who I invited. But almost all of them came! And it was a huge turnout! And it was fantastic.

March:

- Christy convinced me to go with her and a friend and a young child to see the Jonas Brothers 3D concert movie. Which was funny, because I had never even listened to them before that point. And afterward, I became... like, obsessed with their CD. So that was pretty hilarious.

- Celebrated Candace's birthday downtown at the Spaghetti Factory!! I got all dressed up, and it was awesome. And her grandma said I was funny, or something. And we gook pictures in front of Conseco. And I got her a card that played a cheesy love song, and I BELIEVE Hannah Montana lip gloss or something awesome like that. hahaha

- Went to see a free screening of 17 Again with Angie! And then we went to Target, where Dave and I made puppets out of random kitchen items.

- Laura visited me for a weekend, during which we went to the IMA and saw an improv show.

April:

- Got to hang out with Kyle and Anna again, and this time Anna made homemade raspberry sherbet. Mmmmm.

- Went to see Cara's senior art exhibit!

- Celebrated Susan's birthday by going somewhere for dinner! I forget where. haha

- Easter with the fam.

- Went to the drive-in with Kyle and Anna!!!! Outstanding. We saw I Love You, Man (my 6th time seeing it in theaters!) and that stupid Seth Rogen movie that was awful and a waste of time. But we had fun anyway!

- Saw Adventureland with Christy and Candace, which is when Christy decided to dump her cheese powder all over my purse. hahaha

- Flight of the Conchords concert! Was kind of disappointing, but was still funny.

May:

- Had some sort of party at Christy's, which was fun.

- Saw Billy Joel and Elton John in concert!!!! So awesome.

- Went to NYC for the first time!! It appears that May was pretty epic.

- Got COMPLETELY obsessed with American Idol because of Adam Lambert, and the finale was in May. And while in NYC, I basically forced Candace to sit out all night to see him on the Today Show. Fun for me, not so much for her. haha

June:

- Saw Land of the Lost with Christy.

- Celebrated Ron's birthday at a restaurant downtown.

- Believe it or not, those are the only pictures I have from June. So I guess it was a pretty slow month. Um, didn't Michael Jackson die in June? There, some big news.

July:

- Celebrated the 4th of July weekend by going to Symphony on the Prairie with Chels and her crowd, going to the drive-in with Chels to see The Hangover and The Proposal, having lunch with Susan and Anita at Red Robin, and then hanging out with Christy for sparklers and fireworks and other such greatness, followed by Steak n Shake. Great times.

- Went to see Fight Club at the IMA!

- Went to the canal one night with Gregor and Alex(ia.)

- Rocky Horror at the IMA!!!! With Lauren, Shane, Sasha, and Gregor. Though I hate looking at the pictures because I looked hideous, it was a blast at the time. :)

- Saw 500 Days of Summer at the Keystone mall w/ Gregor. First of many times I saw it. Yay! Also, pictures with the stoner van out in the parking lot. hahaha (aka, Gregor's van.)

August:

- The Halo-playing idea first came about, which was pretty awesome, if I do say so myself (as the person who came up with it)

- Celebrated Dan's birthday at Outback Steakhouse, followed by some of us going to Broad Ripple. Which, of course, was a bust. Not my scene.

- Went to the canal again, with a bunch of people.

- Had another birthday shindig for Dan, at Gregor's. Involved lots of movie-watching and me being ridiculously loopy-hyper and it was kind of funny.

- Faux Queen concert at Symphony on the Prairie with Gregor, Myssi, and Adam. SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Highlight of the summer.

- Saw 500 Days of Summer with Christy, and got a letter from Busso that included a piece of Meet the Deedles flair. AGAIN I SAY, SO AWESOME.

- State Fair. Yesssss.

- Spontaneous ice cream cheer-up party at Ron and Carrie's.

September:

- Trav visited us!!

- American Idol tour! AKA Adam Lambert concert.

- Went to Fort Wayne to pick up Trav/have Chinese food. Mmmmmm. House of Hunan. And then we went to Fountain Square to dine at our old stomping grounds.

- Hung out at Susan's with her and some chick and Trav, where I videotaped Trav singing the music of Pocahontas. Hilarious.

October:

- Rock Band party at Angie's!

- Ian's birthday dinner

- Vedera concert at the Hard Rock Cafe w/ Christy

- My Grandma passed away, so I spent a good amount of time up north going to viewing and funeral and such.

- Sheryl's birthday dinner

- Smoky Mountain vacation w/ the fam

- My birthday, which included: dinner at Bubba Gump's, dinner at Red Robin w/ Chels and Susan, and later in the week, dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise with Susan, Ian, Gregor, Dave, and Angie. And Gregor gave me The Mighty Boosh season 1!!!!! Best present ever.

- Halloween!!! Dressed up at the last minute as Erin in the Subtle Sexuality video (The Office). Party here, which basically sucked EXCEPT a few awesome people DID show up and we took fun pics and watched Hocus Pocus. And they enjoyed my punch. :) Then I went to Fountain Square and met up with Christy & Co. for... ROCKY HORROR. So much greatness. I love Halloween.

November:

- Saw New Moon at the midnight showing with Christy and friends, after having a pre-viewing party at her place. It was really fun! Played cards with strangers while we waited in line.

- Thanksgiving with the fam, and then worked Black Friday (bleh;alkshe;h), and then went to the tree-lighting with Christy and friends. After that, we went to Erin J.'s place and watched 17 Again until I fell asleep on the couch. The next day, I had to get up early and drive to the ol' homestead for some reason. Another Thanksgiving? Probably.

- Adam Lambert's CD came out!!!! Yessssss. SO AMAZING. Also, more amazing Lady Gaganess. And Glee. Which I forgot to mention, but it was a big part of this year, too. All throughout.

December:

- Trav visiting again!!! So I went to Fort Wayne and we ate at Casa, which was awesome. Also, blasted Adam Lambert.

- Cruised to Fort Wayne to pick Trav up with Susan, and we blasted Glee and Lady Gaga and ate at House of Hunan. Good times.

- Went home and make cookies w/ the fam.

- Trans-siberian Orchestra concert. Which, in and of itself, was awesome. Other circumstances surrounding it put me in a crappy mood, though.

- Christmas everythings!!! Same as always. Got the weekend off of work, so that worked out crazy well. Yay Christmas!!

- And now, going to have a NYE "party" of marathoning and food consuming and such with Kyle and Anna. I'm super excited about it. :)

So this WILL be TMI for a lot of you. So if you can't be an adult and deal with real life, skip over this entry please. You know me, I'm kind of crass and blunt sometimes.

I forgot to take my meds (aka birth control) for 5 days. Well, 4 days, and then I didn't take it on purpose on the 5th day. I didn't expect anything weird. I figured I'd just wait and pick it back up on the day I left off.

Then, all hell broke loose.

First, it started with spotting. (Spotting = having a light period when you aren't supposed to be having one.) I was like, yuck, but ok. I can deal. I'll just deal with this for a few days and then go along with the plan.

Then, last night, it went from spotting to full-blown anguish. Twice as bad as my normal periods. I am in massive pain, and I rarely get cramps. It's bad. And what makes it worse is that I JUST HAD MY PERIOD A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO.

So, yeah. THIS SUCKS.

So I decided to change my plans, and just throw away those 4 pills and start with yesterday's this morning, and today's tonight. And HOPEFULLY the hormones will zap something in gear and MAKE THE MADNESS STOP.

Otherwise, I have a feeling I will be physically miserable for a few days. Luckily the emotional side seems to have stopped. I'm guessing that the issues with me being SO over-the-top dramatic with Trav and such could've been a direct result of this issue, as it was the first day I forgot to take the meds.

So bear with me, kids. Hopefully I'll make it through this without any casualties.

Thoughts on my friends/life.

I want to write about two things.

1. Movies with Christy.

2. My various friends and their impacts.

So here we go.

Movies with Christy is one of my favorite things in the world right now. Today, I was thinking back to high school and the things I used to do with friends, and then college and the great times I had there. And then I thought of how often I look back and wish I could go back to those times, because they were so great.

And then I snapped back to the moment, and that I was headed to what has typically been an almost weekly ritual of Movie Mondays with Christy. And I realized that in 5-10 years, when I don't have this anymore and have most likely moved on to a new phase in my life, I would look back on these times and wish I could have weekly Movie Mondays with Christy again. And I would remember how excited I would get to go and use my coupons and get the discount popcorn and just escape to another world for a couple of hours, with a friend who genuinely gets the same things I get in regards to most movies.

I need to be in the moment more often, and just enjoy the good times that are happening NOW, rather than dwell on the past experiences. There's a lot of awesomeness happening these days, and there is most likely even more awesomeness in store in the future. And on occasion, I can still relive bits and pieces of the old times... currently.

And onto the second topic.

Sometimes I forget this, but other times I remember... like right now: I have some AMAZING close friends in my life. And each one brings something different to the table.

As everyone who knows me is aware, I have craptons of different facets to my personality. I can go from twelve-year-old girl to middle-aged woman to gay man to emo kid in 3.2 seconds. And I am lucky enough to have at least one friend who shares interests that fit in each of these categories... and sometimes more than one. How flipping awesome is that? Granted, I feel bad and lonely sometimes, because I don't have that ONE best friend/soulmate to share all the important things with, who really gets MOST of what's going on inside me. But still. I have plenty of other people to pick up the various parts in the meantime. And that's pretty awesome.

I have Trav, to love on all things retro with.
I have Susan, to love on all things old school TV with.
I have Mack, for Disney and Adam Lambert.
I have Cara, for serious conversations and helpful advice/perspective... and also to make me cry from laughing so hard.
I have Anna and Kyle, for my rock and humor stuff and stupid movie nights.
I have Christy for a crapton of things, namely cheesy movies that nobody else would like... and cheesy music that nobody else would like. And road trip concert-going.
I have Busso for understanding my heart, and ALSO my humor.

And that's just the start of the list. Everybody brings something different. Thanks to all of you for being there to share commonalities/experiences. :)

Fin.

Stolen from some chick on Tumblr.

10 years ago:
1. I was 14, and in high school.
2. I had recently decided to never again ask a boy out.
3. I still had the ugly bangs and non-tweezed Groucho Marx eyebrows.

5 years ago:
1. I started my sophomore year of college.
2.
Somebody find me somebody to love.

Sometimes I wonder, if things were different...

Like, if certain things had never happened.

If our lives had been shaped differently.

If, if, if...

In theory, it would be perfect.

But that's just a theory, and life happened the way it did for a reason, right? God doesn't just toy with us, does he? He wouldn't dangle perfection in front of our nose, and then reveal to us that somewhere along the line, he felt like screwing with it. The perfection is STILL perfection, and you see it as such, but it just can't see anything worthwhile in you.

And this happens a lot to everyone, I think. You see perfection. You see exactly what you're looking for. Maybe it isn't what you THOUGHT you were looking for, but you realize eventually that maybe it should be. But then, even after all of that, that perfection isn't looking for you.

So then you try to force yourself into looking for something completely different. And you try, and you try... and then you realize you're still looking for the exact same thing.

It sucks. It's like God's playing head games with us. Baiting us. Taunting us.

And sometimes I think that no matter what we try to force ourselves to do, we'll always want the same things. Maybe we're supposed to want what we find that we actually want. At least parts of it.

And then sometimes, you search, leaving no stone unturned, for maybe a better version of that perfection you thought you'd found. But you just keep comparing everything back to the original.

And then you turn back to the original, and you're reminded that you're nothing to it. Your perfection finds you far, far from it.

Life's just weird. Ramblings. Sorry.

I'm lonely, and I'm looking for love in all the wrong places. Not sure what the right places are, but I'm not finding any where I'm looking, so clearly either the universe has set it before me to die alone, or I just have to wait.

I am so, so sick of waiting.

Writer's Block: I Love My Body Because…

Why do you love your body?

Sponsored by Body by Victoria® from Victoria's Secret.

View other answers

Ooh, ooh. I am soooo on this. (For the record, I count above the neck as part of the body. Because otherwise I'd have less to discuss. haha)

I'm gonna go with specific things I like ON my body. Because that's easier.

1. Awesome legs.
2. I have breasts. And although yes, they're pretty small... especially compared to the rest of me... still. They exist.
3. I have cute feet.
4. I love my hair!
5. My eyes are flipping gorgeous, and NO, they are not enhanced with makeup. They really just are that fantastic.
6. My dark eyelashes.
7. My eyebrows. They're the one part of me I actually do put a lot of work into. One time I mentioned to the beauty consultant chick at work that I pluck my eyebrows. She was surprised, and said it looks like I have them professionally done. BOO-YA. (Also, if you ever saw my eyebrows BEFORE I started taking care of them, you'd be even more impressed. I was freaking Groucho Marx until senior year of high school.)
8. I've been told by piano teachers that I have great "piano hands"... long fingers and such. I'd say that's pretty cool.
9. I can grow really long, pretty nails... when I don't have jobs like the one I have right now.
10. My teeth. They aren't perfect, but I think they're still pretty great. Thanks Mom and Dad for the massive amounts of money you spent to make them that way.
11. I like the tiny mole by my right eye. It's cute and kind of like a natural beauty mark. :)
12. I love love love the mole on the right side of my torso. So cute. Nobody but me, my parents/babysitters as a kid, and doctors have ever seen it. Be jealous.
13. I love my birthmark. It's a pretty good-sized mole on my right leg, by my knee. You may have seen that... depends on what I'm wearing.
14. I kind of like my butt? I know that's weird, since I'm always complaining about how I don't have one, but... ya know. I don't have a fat ass. I like that some parts of me aren't fat.
15. The small of my back.

I think that's it. :)

Not that she needs my help, but people are jumping on the OMG MILEY CYRUS IS A SLUTTY WHOOOOOORE WHO IS GOING TO HELL bandwagon already, and of course without having any real facts, so here, let me give it to you straight up, chilluns.

I watched the Teen Choice Awards.

Miley wore a shirt that covered ALLLLLL of her actual business, but you could see the back of her bra.

Also, short shorts. (She is a teenager. AKA this look is appropriate. If you're over 25, short shorts are inappropriate unless you're a stripper, hooker, or Britney Spears. AKA a stripper with some great new tunes. :)

And now, for the moment everyone is talking about:

I watched this, as I said. First of all, AWESOME NEW SONG. Second of all, does this ACTUALLY in your mind = pole dancing? REALLY?! Have you SEEN anyone pole dance? Because I have, and it doesn't look like that. It usually involves some pelvis-to-pole contact. Am I right?

Also note: this photo was taken at the EXACT moment that she dropped down next to the pole. This lasted like .5 seconds. The rest of the performance, she stood on top of the box and danced, while HOLDING ONTO the pole because the people were pushing her around the stage and she needed to not fall to her death.

K pumpkins? She did not pole dance, she's not a slut, and even if she DOES dress like a slut, she's a flipping teenager. I don't even have teenage daughters, or any close female teenage friends, but at least I'm aware of how teenagers dress.

Clearly if you have a problem with Miley Cyrus and would call her a slut or the next Britney Spears, you 1) haven't seen what Britney Spears wore as a teen and compared it to what Miley wears (I have... Britney went above and beyond), 2) are completely unaware of cultural goings-on in America today.

Fin.

Also noteworthy is that both of her parents were in the audience, and both gave her a standing ovation and looked like proud papa and mama. Let them do the parenting; it's their job, not yours.

Now for the enjoyment of people with good taste (aka me), the song Miley was performing while DANCING LIKE A SLUTTY WHORE ::cough cough:: :)

I want to say so many things, but I should probably just keep my thoughts to myself and mind my own business.

So... let's see. My own business.

Apparently I have an eating disorder.

Maybe not the typical ones everybody cares about. I have the one that probably isn't called an eating disorder at all, because it's viewed so negatively.

I'm an overeater.

I binge eat when I'm alone in my apartment. It seriously would be better if I never had food here at all.

I baked cookies the other day. Bad. Idea. I've eaten almost all of them.

I binge eat WORSE when I'm feeling emotional. Like, today. Empathy for others' situations has driven me to clean out almost the entire rest of the cookie batch.

Freaking A.

I normally don't think about it. I just thought about it today. And I clearly haven't done it ALWAYS, because for a while there I was losing weight like someone with one of those REAL eating disorders, without even trying.

And it's not like I'm gaining weight, either. I'm not. Somehow, I'm breaking even.

Miraculously.

But I can tell it. I see myself in the mirror and in pictures and it makes me wanna puke.

I'm freaking revolting. And I can't seem to stop being this person.

I think why it normally doesn't bother me or cross my mind is the lack of weight gain. But seriously. Binging on a freaking batch of cookies is not healthy.

I am not healthy. I'm healthy in SO MANY WAYS, but as far as eating goes, these days, I'm far far far from it.

I disgust myself.

I'm putting my foot down. Right after I finish these Pizza Rolls?

;ALSKHDF;AHSD;FAHSDF!!!!

So that's my business.

This song has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I felt like posting the lyrics anyway. It reminds me of cruising around Anderson w/ Trav. He would always make me play it. I miss Trav. And AU.

So maybe some of it has something to do with something after all...

Yaz, "Only You" (from the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack)

Looking from a window above, it's like a story of love
Can you hear me?
Came back only yesterday
Moving farther away
Want you near me

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

Sometimes when I think of her name when it's only a game
And I need you
Listen to the words that you say; it's getting harder to stay
When I see you

This is going to take a long time, and I wonder what's mine
Can't take no more
Wonder if you will understand with just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door
