Armed with his iMac and the mixing skills to match, Squincy Jones (aka Dr. Knuckstable, and really Shane Rector) is one of Houston's brightest DJs keeping the syrup city on lock. A certified tastemaker, Jones fiercely dishes heaps of Dirty Third cuts, laced with his signature blend
of electro, booty bass, Baltimore, hyphy, grime and whatever else the "dumb tall" DJ likes. Quality hip hop and Miami bass are standards, so fans leave the pretension and Shakira requests at the door.

An open-minded approach and encyclopedic knowledge of turntablism have made Jones a solid, and welcome, name in the scene. Garnering the respect of Houston's most coveted DJs, he hustled his way to successful, laid-back weeklies, including the Proletariat's "Rock Box" and "Certified Fresh " at Downtown's Rich's nightclub. Dubbed by Spin as "the best time you'll have all year," Rock Box is the house party your mom warned you about--it's grimy, rowdy, and the kids ain't alright. Yet the vibe is infectious, furious fun. There, Jones shares the decks with up and coming progressive talent, from Bird Peterson to Ninja Tune's DJ Yppah and 14k. Meanwhile at "Fresh," Jones has thrown it down with the likes of rave kids Bad Boy Bill, DJ Cat and Tommie Sunshine, and he is slated to open more acts in the future.

It's evident Jones is a talent to watch. With a slew of new projects piling up by the day, fans can anticipate more shakedowns soon. "I like to play funny pop stuff when I can...the stuff that'll make you go, 'yeahhhh!'" he says. "I can play a set where I can go from genre to genre, or I can play one straight genre, what do you want?" The answer: more genre-melting mixes with a house party feel. Last spring marked the release of the heavily anticipated SLF EMP collaboration with Witnes, while the duo's Do Ya Homework graced the pages of July's URB magazine. A skittering collection of late-eighties breakbeats and party anthems, Paul Chang lauded Homework for its funky fresh approach, embrace of late eighties' classics and not to mention Squincy's handiwork at stitching together varying beats.

Up next for Jones are "mixes, mixes and mixes," more parties, collaborations, and hosting more weeklies. Whatever he does, it's sure to be fresh.
