In recent times the French dance music scene has been hankering for new talent within the trance/progressive genre. In a climate where the French dance floors are plagued with 'electro by numbers', Klems is starting to break through and exhibit his epic and sophisticated blend of trance infused dance music. Klems has gained recognition in the studio under the production name of 'X-Calator', his very first track 'Another Moonlight' was snapped up by Albert Vorne's Mazeman label. After success on the Italian label, Klems didn't stop, and signed tracks under numerous aliases such as Atlantic Rider for deeper trance, 'Klems' in a more techy/progy style and "Gaillard Clément" for more Trip Hop/Chillout. 2007 is shaping up to be the year when things take off on a greater scale by signing on Major labels Club Elite/Armada (NL).
ARTIST OF THE WEEK: GLEAVE

Gleave Dobbin has long been at the forefront of dance music in Northern Ireland. At 14 years of age he was crowned NI DMC Mixing Champion, and became a key part of dance music history in the country & was asked to go on tour with the Prodigy in Ireland. From his early residency at the notorious all-nighter Circus Circus, he built up a legion of fans who have faithfully followed his career throughout the days and very long nights of Heggarty's (Bangor), The House (Larne) and Spank (Warrenpoint, Dungannon and Dundalk).

Demand has remained so consistently high for him to pack out virtually every leading venue. He was voted No. 3 DJ in Ireland by the readers of Clubbing Dot Com and is a regular fixture on line-ups for Planetlove Festival, Global Gathering, Tidy Weekenders, Gatecrasher and Godskitchen events in Northern Ireland. His mixes have been aired across the nations on 2FM and BBC Radio One; one such mix being broadcast live from the Radio One New Years Eve event in Belfast (2002/03). Gleave performed a live prime-time slot to over 20,000 party-goers - the pinnacle point of his career to date. In Mainland UK he is ranked as one of the leading nu-breed DJ's and Producers and leading club magazine Mixmag named him a Future Hero in 2004/05/06 - a claim he has certainly lived up to! Gleave's schedule is filling up fast with his weekly club night 'Lost!' at the Elephant Room (Belfast) and a plethora of guest spots at Passion (Coalville), Inside Out (Glasgow), The Vaults (Dublin), The Gallery (London) and long time residencies at Thompsons (Belfast) and Club Soi (Portrush). Spreading his wings beyond the confines of Northern Ireland, Gleave has entertained hordes of ardent dance music aficionados in Australia, Egypt, Finland, Astonia and the clubbers' paradise - Ibiza. During his time on the White Isle he has played at some of the world's most prestigious clubs including Privilege, Eden, Café Mambo, Summum and Sundance. DJing under the moniker 'Audio Rehab', Gleave returns to the island in June and September 2007 with appearances at Fergie's Excentric club night & Tidy Events @ Es Paridis.

His productions have been caned by the biggest names in dance; with Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Fergie and Judge Jules collectively singing from the Gleave Dobbin hymn sheet. Voted Best Production in the 2006 Northern Ireland Dance Music Awards, 'Lights Out' was one of last year's biggest tunes following mega support from Marco V and Eddie Halliwell. Being short-listed for Best DJ in the N.I.D.M.A., Gleave's club night 'Lost!' lifted the award for Best Club Night and his release 'Fire Devil' was in the run for Best Production. Voted Hard Dance Tune of the Month by Mixmag, the track features a 'Lost! in smoke' mix and received colossal support and was blasted out on BBC Radio One by Judge Jules and Eddie Halliwell who both featured the original on their summer compilations. Gleave's track 'Needlewerk/Come With Me', was released on Dutch label Reset @ Spinnin Records and was given the remix treatment by Sander van Doorn who beamed "both tracks are massive". Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten and Christopher Lawrence have all been quick to praise the track with IDJ Mag rating it a whopping 5/5.

As one half of Coast2Coast, Gleave has produced a catalogue of heavyweight dance-floor stormers including the massive debut track 'Home', which clocked in at No.37 in the national charts and featured in Gatecrasher and Euphoria compilations. The follow-up track 'B With Me' & 'Searching' was equally feted and has led the way for a whole host of successes for the duo including the powerful new Coast 2 Coast feat Le Sal & Pheonix - Cut Me track that will be released on John Askew's Discover Label very soon. Gleave and Johnston also remixed Fergie's 'Spin Energy' which features on Ferry Corsten's Cream compilation and Dance Valley compilation respectively.

The clubbing fraternity can look forward to more explosive productions from Gleave! To find out more:

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: HYBRID

Mike Truman and Chris Healings have been writing, producing, touring and Dj'ing all over the globe for the best part of a decade and have amassed nearly 250 productions to date. The duo have written three LPs, 'Wide Angle' which was released in 1999, "Morning Scifi" released in 2003 and "I Choose Noise" in 2007 on Distinctive Records.

They were chosen by Moby to support him on his Autumn 2000 North American tour which covered 43 dates over 56 days. This gave the fledgling band time to get ready for their first punishing global tour over 18 months taking them to every venue that matters from as far afield as Australia, Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival, Melbourne for the Millennium NYE, across Europe and back to the UK to headline many festival tents and concert venues.

Their second album's more fragile and darker sound has led them to getting involved with scoring for film and the duo worked with Harry Gregson Williams in January 2004 on Tony Scott's 'Man On Fire'. Since then they have been involved in the production of the score for Ridley Scott's 'Kingdom Of Heaven' and the Tony Scott films, 'Domino' and "Déjà Vu" and have recently completed their first solo score for Twisted Pictures newest production, 'Catacombs'.

Now touring as a full seven piece band, Hybrid spent last summer playing live in the US, Australia and Europe, working with Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction, Peter Distefano from Porno For Pyros and Hooky from New Order. Now fronted by permanent singers Charlotte James and John Graham they are currently working on album four while busy with touring, film projects and a DJ compilation to be released this summer.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: LANGE

Ranked 37 in the world (2008 DJ Mag Top 100 Poll), Lange is recognized as one of the most influential dance artists of the past decade. A DJ who has remained at the forefront of the scene throughout his career and a producer that continues to push all boundaries.

Rocketing on to the scene 10 years ago, Lange has nothing but achievement to look back on. He is the producer behind an astonishing 20 UK top 40 hits, the talent responsible for the UK Top 10 trance anthem 'Drifting Away', the classic SuReal 'You Take My Breath Away' and the remixer that brought tracks such as DJ Sakin 'Protect Your Mind' and Lost Witness 'Happiness Happening' to a mainstream global audience, gaining him undiminished support from industry leaders such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, and Pete Tong, and even an appearance on Top of the Pops.

After 10 years in a business that has earned him a legion of fans, counting among them the trance elite, Lange shows no sign of slowing down; he has carefully honed his music style into a cutting edge blend of raw and filthy electro baselines and angelic melodies, resulting in some of the most original and characteristic trance records of recent times. After last years anthems, 'Another You Another Me' and 'Angel Falls' doing the damage on the dance floor, Lange is again back on form with his latest single 'Songless', taken from his highly acclaimed debut album 'Better Late Than Never'.

From euphoric trance leader to underground dance hero, as a DJ Lange does it all; rocking audiences of 25,000, performing at prestigious festivals such as Global Gathering, Summadayze, Creamfields and the Zurich Street Parade and making appearances for some of the best club brands in the world including Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Ministry Of Sound and Slinky, firmly rooting himself as one of the world's top dance music DJ's, crossing genres and giving the global dancefloors exactly what they want.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: DJ SHAH

He's described by the mighty Tiësto as "A great producer". His next release is in collaboration with the World's No.1 DJ, Armin van Buuren. Averaging 12 productions a year (regularly caned by Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond et all), he's one of Europe's most prolific and highly-regarded trance producers. He is DJ Shah...

Shah (real name Roger Pierre Shah) first flexed his production muscles back in 1999, putting out tracks like 'The Mission', 'Claps' & 'Tides of Time'. In 2003 his track 'High' was signed by UK Virgin Records sub-label Nebula. Since then he has signed his productions across trance heavyweights including Anjunabeats, Vandit, Blackhole & Armada/A State of Trance. His last outing - the Adrina Thorpe vocalled 'Who Will Find Me' - prompted Armin van Buuren to proclaim it as his "favourite track of 2007"!

His remix credit-roll reads like a veritable 'who's who' of EDM. Shah has reworked tracks for legendary vocalists like Sarah McLachlan and Nadia Ali. He's also remixed tunes for a litany of trance-masters including Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Mark Norman, York, Cosmic Gate, Josh Gabriel, Johan Gielen, System F, The Thrillseekers, Solarstone, Three Drives, Matt Darey & Oceanlab.

Alongside his DJ Shah moniker, Roger has also produced under a slew of sun-tipped pseudonyms, including High Noon at Salinas, Magic Island, Savannah and Sunlounger. It was under the latter that he released the 'Another Day on The Terrace' album in 2007, which shot to No.1 on Dutch iTunes' 'all-music-genres' chart. The Album also spawned two hugely-received singles: 'In & Out' & 'White Sand'. The project become so celebrated that Roger spun it out into a live act, a performance of which was featured on Armada's ArminOnly DVD. Notably Shah is also one half of ASOT's Black Pearl (with veteran trance producer Ralph Fridge), Anjuna's Purple Moods & Blackhole project Global Experience. 'Going Wrong', his forthcoming collaboration with Armin van Buuren is set to elevate Shah's name to the next level.

Though probably known first as a producer, the 'DJ' in Shah's name is far from just a natty tag. Roger has taken his innovative, Balearically-edged sets and live performances as far a field as the USA, China, Greece, Spain, Thailand, France, the UK, Hungary, Turkey, El Salvador, The Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poalnd, Malta & others.

Adding further to the ever-mushrooming Shah empire, Roger also runs his own company "Magic Island", which is home of his Magic Island Records imprint which is marketed & distributed by Armada and also the Magic Island - Music for balearic people radio show.

With a triple CD artist concept album (which will include both acoustic and club mixes), a new Sunlounger long-player and a DJ Shah Mix Compilation to follow later in the year, 2008 will see Roger Pierre Shah become one of Armada's most important artists.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: M.I.D.O.R.

Rutger van Bostelen, better known as M.I.D.O.R., started his musical career at the age of 12 by taking guitar lessons. His interest in electronic music grew which resulted in his first set of turntables at the age of 15. After 6 years of guitar lessons Rutger taught himself to play the piano as well. He became very interested in making his own electronic dance music and after buying a computer and his first synthesizer, he started practicing and experimenting with his new found toys. Influenced by artists such as Ferry Corsten, Marco V and Tiësto, Rutger started to write his own tracks.

In 2002 Rutger met Eelke Kleijn in a club in Amsterdam. After talking about their musical passions for a couple of hours they decided to join forces and started working together. They found themselves moving up the ladder pretty fast from then onwards.
Various releases, co operations, and remixes followed, for artists such as Lange, Talla 2XLC, Mike Koglin, Robert Nickson, Jose Amnesia, Octagen and Angel Sanchez. Their own 'After Midnight EP' on Duty Free's sub label Intensive Music was an amazing hit record, with 'No Man's Land' in particular getting large support from Tiësto (playing it at his concert and often on national television). In 2005 their tracks 'Breathing' with vocalist Linn and the 'Humanize EP' on Five AM Digital again hit the spot. Major support came from all the usual suspects, including Marco V, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren and Deep Dish. Besides being known for their work as M.I.D.O.R., they are also involved in projects such as 'Global Interference', 'Aegan', 'Phantom Force', 'Kamigawa' and 'Kleijn & van Bostelen'.

In 2006 Rutger joined Paul Moelands (again) in the studio resulting in the track 'Alcatraz' which hit the global dance scene like a bomb. Featuring on Ben Liebrands Grandmix and various compilations. After the success of other tracks like 'Flyback', 'Rush Hour', 'Metropolitan' and 'Activate' Rutger and Paul started to spend more and more time together in the studio resulting in an actual Octagen & M.I.D.O.R. album hitting the shelves in the spring of 2008.

Next to his work as a producer, Rutger is an excellent DJ as well. He has played in front of immense crowds all over Europe and performed together with DJs such as John O'Callaghan, Galen Behr, Gareth Emery, Angel Sanchez, Ron van den Beuken, Brian Cross and many others.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: KIMITO LOPEZ

The story of Kimito Lopez begins in Oslo, Norway. His early interests were nothing along the lines of smokefilled innercity dancefloors, but rather on the football pitch or on the ice, firing pucks. His defining passion however, surfaced when Kimito found his love for electronic music, brought to life by the now classic, late 90s trance compilations such as Magik and Forbidden Paradise. Ice skates and football jerseys were put in the closet, and melodic trance was blasting from his bedroom speakers.

After loving the music and its captivating soundsphere for years, turntables were brought into the home, closely followed by an ever mounting collection of vinyl records. Over the course of a couple of years, several smaller Oslo venues set the stage for Kimito's first appearances as a DJ. Then from 2002 and on, things really started shaking. Kimito guest DJ'ed at many higher profile domestic clubnights as well as promoting his own parties with his crew of likeminded enthusiasts and friends. With two nominations for "Clubnight of the Year" in an Oslo nightlife-guide (2004 and 2007) things were starting to look bright for the half
Hispanic half Norwegian kid from the Norwegian suburbs.

In 2007 he received a nomination for "DJ of the Year" in the same magazine, next to shooting stars like DJ Cave and house scene heavyweight veterans such as G-Ha. Besides rocking numerous Norwegian dancefloors, Kimito has also visited several Dutch clubs
as well as the legendary, no longer existing Turnmills in London, setting the pace for the future!

Production came as a natural ingredient for an ever growing appetite for good tracks. Kimito worked hard while gradually building his studio, finally landing him releases on high quality trance labels such as Black Hole, Armada, Intuition, Five AM and Drizzly recordings to name a few. All of his tracks have been supported by the world-elite of trance DJ's such as Tïesto, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Solar Stone, Ronski Speed, Menno De Jong and so on.

While we are at it, his tracks can also be found on CD compilations such as Tïesto's In Search of Sunrise, In Trance We Trust, Ministry of Sound and Goliath. Undoubtedly, Kimito is now a well established name in the trance circuit, with several new smoking tech and trance tracks waiting to be unleashed at a club near you. Keep your eyes peeled, the voyage has just begun.

Master of numerous music industry disciplines, Menno de Jong has already carved enough notches on the dance tree for someone twice his age. His production & remix career has seen him record for some of Europe's biggest trance labels and he's the owner of lauded Dutch independent Intuition Recordings. A bona-fide Podcast pioneer, he's produced and presented the much respected and widely-syndicated Intuition Radio show for the last 3 years. As a DJ he's closed gigs for Tiësto & Paul van Dyk, is currently ranked at No. 62 in DJ Magazine's Top 100 Chart and has spun in over 25 countries. At just 24 years old, he's is without question the next challenger to the Dutch trance throne!

Born into a musical family, it took very little time for Menno to start experimenting with the array of synths corralled in his father's studio. His production career started in auspicious fashion in 2004 when 'Guanxi', his debut production was signed to Anjunabeats. The consummate music workaholic, Menno has continued to conjure one magical, melodic feat after another. Double-header 'Magma'/'Momentum' and 'Sjamaan' were released on Fundamental (in 2005 & 2007 respectively), while 'Tundra' (2005) and 'Nolthando'/ 'Solid State' (2007) appeared on his own Intuition label. Remix-wise, he has re-scripted tracks for The Thrillseekers, Karen Overton & Mark Otten, amongst others and to ever-increasing acclaim.

As with studio production Menno also dabbled in DJ'ing from an early age. At 17 he progressed from school discos & friends parties to a two year residency at an underground club in Eindhoven. Further charged by the reception 'Guanxi' received from DJs and still aged just 20 years old he threw himself into music nearly full-time, juggling his busy schedule with his studies at university. In the last three years he has successfully catapulted himself into the upper echelons of the trance DJ hierarchy. Having now spun in over 25 countries, Menno has played at clubs and events that are themselves the virtual synonyms of trance. Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance Energy, Sensation White, Mysteryland, Amnesia Ibiza, Love Parade, Berlin, The Gaudi Arena in Moscow & WMC in Miami have all hosted his pin-point perfect tune selection and sophisticated mixing style. Alongside that he has DJ'ed with some of the biggest names in the scene, including trail-blazers such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, The Prodigy, Paul van Dyk, Marco V and Markus Schulz. With his non-stop smile, energetic dancing and ever-present contact with the audience, he continues to share his passion for evocative melodies and dance-floor rocking beats.

Menno's rise through the deck-spinning ranks has been suitably reflected in DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 poll. He debuted at 72 in 2006 before rising 10 places to 62 a year later. He is also ranked at No. 10 in Trance Addict's annual top 100 Trance DJs poll.

Following an inspiring tour of Africa, Menno broke into the compilation market in mid-2007. Mixing the first in a projected series of country-themed albums, Intuition Sessions Vol. 1: South Africa gathered together the cream of the label's highly recognizable crop.

Menno was also at the leading-edge of the internet radio and podcasting phenomenon, launching his Intuition Radio show in 2005. The weekly episodes rapidly became required listening for the internet's trance-hungry hoards, with Menno showcasing the very best in EDM. The show has now gone monthly and progressed onto the airwaves of XM Radio, Dutch national Slam FM & Worldspace with tens of thousands of listeners tuning in each week. And we are proud to have Menno on Static Progress.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: GALEN BEHR

Galen Behr, also known as Passiva and Ava Mea, has clearly already earned his place in the trance scene. From the age of 10, Galen has been busy developing him talent in what he entitles, "Energetic Light Music". After playing the violin for roughly one year, he made contact with "trance music", and was instantly committed. Trance caught his attention from the first beat, and it hasn't weakened a bit since.

Galen: "Not a single day went by without trance. Trance is a lifestyle. I breathe trance. Even when I'm not feeling quite well, it's the music which gets me back on track. It has a inevitable positive vibe with a large risk to addiction, in the positive sense of the word of course!"

This influence is clearly reflected when listening to his sets. They're his journey in a universe of warm melodic sound, supported by a distinct beat. By creating an accessible journey through this "trance universe", he tries to share his passion for the music with others.

In the summer of 2002 Galen began producing his own music. After his first remix of Ferry Corsten- Indigo, his adventure truly began. Not content to simply spin the records of others any more, Galen continued to work hard at producing his own music. By the end of 2004 he had already produced tracks which were being hammered by Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten, and had his first two singles both make appearances in the Dutch Dance Charts! (Passiva- Clouds Like Heaven and Passiva- Serenity)

2005 symbolizes a period of further development to Galen. After the completion of three successful collaborations, including the track "Halo", which he produced along side Thomas Bronzwaer (Arizona), Galen was convinced he needed a new challenge to work on. He began a new project, "Ava Mea", which he has used to widen his style to a far more progressive form of trance, embracing a warmer and deeper sound. This move was greeted with much enthusiasm and hype from DJ's and clubbers alike, suggesting we will only hear more from this alias.

His first progressive trance production became a success. "Ava Mea- In The End", and featured on compilation albums of Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and Andrew Bennett. Instantly he received more and more requests for his remixing skills.

In the (near) future, Galen might surprise us more often. He's still developing his style, though keeping the unique spirit of trance in his mind and his work.

Galen explains: "In my opinion there are already too many records being produced nowadays without a certain "soul", and that doesn't do the trance scene any good. The feeling it all started with has been a lost".

With his energetic style, Galen truly hopes to contribute his share to the soul of trance."

Could this be the start of a new musical revolution?
