Steve is a music producer/performer/sound designer from Cork, Ireland, currently working out of Dublin. Having produced all kinds of music from Techno to Jazz, he was recently lured into Dubstep by it's low frequency basslines and hard hitting drums. It was a marriage of styles that hit the spot for him, and his music has adapted accordingly to slower rhythms and bigger basslines. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh's Sound Design MSc. programme, he enjoys all things sonic, is constantly working on new projects and is always eager to collaborate. He has been playing all manner of drums since he was old enough to make sounds by banging surfaces and has been known to incorporate this into his live sets using electronic drum pads to trigger sounds in a custom built Max MSP patch. He has most recently been concentrating on Film Sound and Post-Production with his production company SD Sound Design. Be sure to check out www.sdsounddesign.com due to be launched early 2009.
Write up from Open Music (http://www.thisisopenmusic.com/2008/09/opn-005-subjektive-subjektive/):
From the Skull Disco / Slaughter Mob / Ital Tek corner of the dubstep universe comes this slice of crisp sheen crafting bass. From the traditional sounds spawns a heavy sub-bass complemented by scratchy percussion and eerie effects. A familar vibe of ancient Tokyo meets the mean streets of deepest East London, as gongs clang, and bass warbles. The tone is the academic coldness of IDM and MAX/MSP explorations meets dubsteps driving womping animalness, perfectly captured in Growler & Bruiser. I think potentially Ireland's future contender for a spot held long by Barry Boxcutter Lynn as Irelands leading Dubstep talent.
