St. Frankie Lee synthesizes the sounds of country, gospel, blues and world music into an upbeat, rhythmic, stage-show that, depending on the setting, can either fill the house with up to seven playing and singing musicians or haunt a living room with hushed intimacy and minor-key harmonies. Led by singers-songwriters-musicians-partners Chelsea Campbell and Derrick Martin (playing guitar and banjo, respectively), St. Frankie Lee sets their songs of murdered lovers and angry mobs against a timeless rhythm section (upright bass and brushed snare and bass drum), atmospheric accents (including accordion, piano, cello, and mandolin), and lead, of course, by the sexually-charged vocals of its two dynamic leaders.
