The amount of time I get for this project is quite a lot. Therefore I find it important that my subjects and themes come from interest and fascinations I have from long before.

Factions with ideas which are found extreme by our society, has been fascinating me for a longer time. In this I am very curious to their motives underlying their actions. What drives them? What influence does the group have on the individual? What are they searching for? What is in their hearts? Are they really as dangerous as they look like? Or are they searching for love and looking after each other like everybody else is searching for? A unconditional looking after what is hard to find in de society of today. The so called brotherhood. What is this brotherhood or fraternity? And what is the importance of this? Where can we find it? What does brotherhood do with individuals? And what are people capable of by this brotherhood?

For this project I will be going to the army. There where brotherhood is essential. Responsibility and equality to one another are substantial there. You need to be able to rely upon each other in the thick of the battle. The training in the army is a place where brotherhood is being developed. Brotherhood from the day you walk into the army base. The proces starts with the appearance by wearing uniforms and shaving the heads. Which cooperates on the equality among the soldiers. The whole group takes blame for the mistake of one individual. We can see the sternness, equality and discipline in the order and rules. In neat shaved heads, the situations when they stand in rank, when the beds are made up tidy. In this the differences in details are essential. And also I am curious how the discipline and brotherhood are visible in their spare time.

For this project I want to get permission at the army with a good concept. Because I will approach this subject in a positive way, I won’t scare the army right away and do not expect much trouble getting permission to photograph. The soldiers in college themselves will be the main subject. The proces they go through is important. In the whole project context in image is important. I will be photographing from a close and far away distance and try to find a good balance in it. I will get close to capture personality, identity, details and experience. I will get further away to be able to get context and environment in the images. This combination can be a strong one and give me the possibility to tell the story I want to tell.
