11:18 AM - the living theater
Current mood: numb

The Living Theater

The purpose was to bring theater and politics together and try to change the world for the better. As the '68 revolution of human pollution, was to captivate the averted, all but none changed their policys. Racism, Nationalism, Capitalism, still existed between our fingers and slipped away when trying to fall to catch them. The Revolution meant nothing to the decades of the druged out disco 70's and the health revolution of the 80's. Even in the 90's was everything seen perverted, false, nonexistant, but yet again this was a time of Cold War and fragile souls that fell for false hope. Now, the '68 revolution carries on in the souls of the children born from '89 to the 90s, thought that nothing was to happen, and yet again we were wrong. Now activism amongst teens are at its height again. And we fight, not yet as a nation, because we fight our own selves in trying to fight through the immence emotions that our body and the chemical mind gives us, not to mention society and our sence of anti-socialism. Through this we face the fear of extreme nationalism, through our own eyes and our own country, it may not be said that you are engauged with extreme nationalism but in the simplist term "being Patriotic". Now whom i ask are we following? In my eyes, and the eyes of that are attached to the brains of the people that think like I do, we are following Nazi Germany. Secretly of course, but how do you know? Are we safe? Is there not a way to come to some agreement between this world to finally live in peace? Peace is dead, nonexistant, for those who believe in it, I'm sorry to crush your surreal dream. But we will never really be free of anything, amongst the living, as death will liberate us all. Falling and waking, from a heavy sleep have I come to this realization, am I being surrounded by a nation that is not careful, to what they say, what they do? Honestly, you're scaring me half to death.

7:24 PM - LULAC ESSAY... for Austin
Current mood: accomplished
Category: News and Politics

In everything possible that could happen in this world, one of our main problems, that we have not dealt with not only as Latin American citizens, but as the youth of America, is the ever-increasing high school drop-out rate. It is especially prominent within our communities along the border. From California to Texas, there are cities that are in need of desperate help. Statistics show that thirteen percent of Latino students drop out of high school compared to eleven percent of African-American and six percent of white students. With that said, the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement is something that has been in our country since Manifest Destiny but really recognized in the 1960's and is unfortunately the least studied civil rights movement in America. Problems are arranged from the restoration of land grants, to labor workers rights, to enhancing education, to even voting and political rights and issues within our very own communities. With this, all that our fathers and their fathers have fought for, are for nothing, this is what the Latin American youth is saying by dropping-out of high school. Therefore, we must bring change and fully be satisfied with our soon to be growing college rates.

It is one thing to say, "We are going to change something" and it is another to do it. The confidence of the Latino youth communities these days have gone to slim numbers. My implication to this serious dilemma is to boost the character of our youth. To that idea, I personally would encourage these students by stimulating something that they like and incorporate it with the learning process. I understand that school just doesn't interest these youths, there's got to be something that we can do to help school be fun for these Latin American youth. From my experiences, I know that there are those youths who just sit in the back of the class and just make fun of the teacher or mock the youth that have some sense in what they are doing and fully understand the material on the curriculum. To my understanding the whole mocking of the "smart" youth, makes not only the youth uncomfortable, it also shows that the youth that is mocking the other has no real understanding about what is going on in class or the world for that matter. To that I say that we should empower these youths, maybe through rally's or to have someone come speak out, give them a taste of how far education can take you in this life. Because we all know that there are people in general who laugh at the ones that fall under all Latino stereo types and who are terrified of these youths because of how they look or what they construct themselves to be, stereo types. In most cases, these youth don't know much of education, to them its all about consuming alcohol, illegal drugs and worrying about everything later. Why? Because that is all those youths know; that is what they have been raised to know and feel. Fortunately there are some of these youths whom are interested in their peers succeeding in life.

Optimistically, the organization that helps most youth thrive is the LULAC Youth Organization. Without this organization I know that I would not be here today spreading the knowledge of my people, being one who is a Leader and in my heart a Revolutionary. I as a member and vice president of the El Paso council number ten sixty, I vow to help those in need and to enhance in all ways imaginable the Latin American Community. I speak out to my people and even to others of any other race but I am not one to give up any issue. To this, I give my all in helping elucidate this civil obstruction of our country.
