Bruce remained in the city because his 80-year old aunt refused to evacuate before the storm and although she insisted Bruce leave her alone, he is a good nephew and could not leave the city without her. The Swedish-born Aunt Eva is a former Disney cartoonist and worldly enough to bribe all the military personnel with Heinekens so she could stay at her home. She loved their daily attention and they brought her meals and water (although Bruce had already stockpiled her home with tons of supplies). A friend of Bruce s offered Aunt Eva a wonderful home in Alexandria, LA and Bruce s only requirement was that she bathe. This requirement was too much for Aunt Eva and she refused to leave her home and demanded more Heinekens. At the peak of this absurdity a Vanity Fair Magazine photographer dropped by Eva s home. A full-length picture of Aunt Eva in a flowery dress posing on her front porch with her incredibly ugly dog Oolaa was published in the October 2005 Vanity Fair.
I was riding my bike last week and saw the a common sight; giant hand-painted lettering on Spain Street pleading with helicopter pilots to drop WATER and FOOD. Within a block I saw Aunt Eva and Oolaa then at the next intersection saw more huge lettering on the road that spelled; PEDICURE.
