sunsplit is aislinn and ryan van kriedt's baby. we started writing music together the day after we met eachother in early 2004. soon after which we made a beautiful home recording studio in our apartment in oakland california. after writing and recording everything ourselves for a couple years we started to try make a live band happen. not an easy thing to do once you've written and recorded all the parts you want everyone to play. it's hard to make 5 people sound like 2.
our friend martyn brought us out to scotland so we could get the live band going and do some recording out in the scottish country side. we had a band melt down within a week and so the melted one had to be sent home. after this it ended up being a 3 month long study in recording, song writing, losing your mind, and alcoholism. we did get some great songs out of it. two of which are on our debut record: "something from nothing" and "the warmth in me". some others that were written and/or recorded there may be on our next attempt.
after returning home we started the whole process of getting a live band all over again. we started playing with one of my best friends shea roberts (the richmond sluts, big midnight) as well as nick forte and lauren grubb of the band "minipop". this worked pretty well until philladelphia's "the asteroid #4" came through san francisco on tour and stayed with us. we already knew philly was a great music city because the philly based band "mazarin" stayed with us in scotland while they were touring the uk and backing them were "the cobbs" (another amazing philly band). they both blew us away with their musicianship and spirits. so, while out to dinner in oakland it took little convincing from asteroid for us to decide that we should move to philly. two weeks later we were living in fishtown with members of the asteroid #4 in sunsplit and us in the asteroid #4. the day after we came into town we played cmj in the asteroid #4. trial by fire.
we are now a year into living in philly and we love it. we have a great recording/rehearsing warehouse with the A4 and we have become a big musical family. recently we have been touring the uk with asteroid which has been amazing. we love our new english friends over there like koolaid electric co., mainline (irish), the light shines, free love babies, white noise sound.... we love all you guys!
we now finally have a great live band together and are recording a new record. thanks for reading and listening.
