Sweater Weather is a musical octet currently residing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Over the past three years, the band has gone through what can be described as a sedimentary growth: the first layer was the songwriting of Casey Trela. The second layer formed when Casey asked his good friend, Curt White, to accompany him. The next three layers came all at once with the addition of Lindsay Ellerbe on cello, Tim Phillips on melodica (now glockenspiel and trumpet), and Adam Shaffernoth on djembe. With five layers intact the band felt stable and began to seek an audience; someone to not only to hear their music, but to share in it. After playing shows across North Carolina, another layer was added with Bobby Sweatt on drums. His post-rock/prog-rock influences and tribal percussion helped to elevate the music to a new level.
Over time and a heavier show schedule, the group's sound became more defined while continuing to grow. In summer 2006, Sweater Weather added another two layers: Katie Spencer returned from South America with a golden accordion and Jonathan Mackey rounded off the group with his grounding bass guitar.
Sweater Weather loves playing music and sharing it with others. They work to break down the divide that exists between artist and audience and share in the experience of artistic creation.
