What you will get away from this training session is first hand experience with using turntables and learning about the basic elements of 'House, Trance, Techno, Breakbeat and Drum N' Bass' music along with a backstage hands-on approach at one of DC's premiere nightclubs. You will learn how to beat match, tempo/pitch match and how to cue. I will do my absolute best to teach you how to recognize different elements of sound and how you can put them together effectively to create an emotional, hypnotic journey. Next we will venture inside the technical side of DJing which will include making a playlist for a mix, using a mixer effectively and sampling. Then, I will show you the next generation in DJing: the laptop. I will show you Ableton, Traktor and VirtualDJ; not only will you learn how to utilize up to 4 tracks at once, but you will see how professional DJ's use programmable effects and tricks to make the sound unique. Finally, I will give you a brief tour of the production studios of Logic, Traktor and Ableton which will include the making of your very own song! To top off this experience, on Wednesday, November 17th you will join me at FIVE nightclub in Washington DC for a DJ set and see first hand from the eyes of a DJ what it's really like to control a massive dance floor.
