Need some advice

My church is going to start producing video and audio. They've asked me to help out with buying and setting up everything. We're all mac users but so far I'm the most advanced mac user we got. I'm mostly and audio guy so this will all be new to me. Is Finalcut express going to be the best out-of-box start for us? They will mostly 4 to 5 min produced segments. Another problem is, no one knows when they'll be releasing a version for Leopard and if Adobe Premire is anything like Photoshop, the learning curve will be huge!!

I know we need the max amount of RAM for our machines, 1 dual processor G5, 1 24 in core 2 duo Imac, and a 15' powerbook. I think they're gonna buy a macbook pro too. I know we'll need lots of HD space, so I'm looking at getting 1 or 2 500 gig firewire 800 drives and a portable firewire HD. They want to buy a good camera to start with but man there are so many to pick from. What's a good all around camera for outside interview shots, but also for video podcast too?
