I got a special treat on Father's Day. My hands down favorite restaurant is Zaxby's, and my girls made a special point to take me there after church. I'm one of those fairly adventurous types when it comes to trying new things off the menu. But I'm not that way at Zaxby's. I could eat their Buffalo Fingers all day. The funny thing is that the restaurant has a sign above the drink station that reads, "Eating at Zaxby's can be addictive, so remember we are only open for lunch and dinner!" I guess that rules out "Tongue-Torch Buffalo Fingers" for breakfast.
The girls went to Anderson, SC to stay the week with Nana and Papa (Amy's mom and dad). Amy and I took them down on Sunday afternoon. We got them settled in and then woke up on Monday morning to go to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. The drive through the mountains is beautiful and relaxing even in the heat of summer. You can just imagine how breathtaking it is in the spring or fall.
Nothing really prepares you for Biltmore. Photos hardly do it justice. My mind has a hard time envisioning four acres. It has an impossible task in imagining a four acre house! Biltmore' s grand house and grounds are enduring monuments to the wealth and abilities of the Vanderbilt family, particularly George Washington Vanderbilt. For generations to come, visitors will visit Biltmore to admire his vision and achievement. But all of his wealth, ambition, and philanthropy, couldn't spare him from an untimely death. After a botched appendectomy, George Vanderbilt died at age 51. He left his house and fortune to his wife and daughter and their descendants, who maintain it today. I encourage everyone to see it at some point in life.
