Have you ever thought about how much stuff really costs? I'm not talking about the stuff we buy at grocery, department, or convenience stores. I'm talking about the most valuable things in life...
I just finished watching Part 5 of Ken Burns' documentary, The War on PBS. Amy often accuses me of watching too much of the History Channel (or as she calls it "The Hitler Channel" because he or WWII seems to be the subject of each show). Well, The War is unapologetically about the greatest conflict of the last century. It tells the story of how our nation came of age during this piviotal point in history through sacrifice, courage, and triumph.
There are precious few among my generation who have any context for understanding what those Americans -- men and women, boys and girls -- endured so that we may enjoy the fruits of their labor. I suppose that tonight's program drove home a little more of their underappreciated fortitude. It's sobering to say the least...
Therefore, let me take a moment to thank all of those who have sacrificed so much so that my family may live in peace. I know that my children's children will one day sing the praises of America's "Greatest Generation" as well.
