The other day, I told our church about my youngest daughter, Avery, and her reaction whenever I ask her for some of the M&Ms I've given her. I told that story to illustrate how our reaction often mirrors hers whenever God asks us to bring back part of what He's given us.

Well there may have been some doubters among those here, but there were none among those who went to eat with us after church. To prove my point, I asked Avery for some of her drink.The normally talkative and amiable little girl narrowed her eyes, straightened her lips, grabbed her Coke with both hands, and moved it as far away from me as she could. All the while she kept saying, "NO!," becoming louder as I tried to get closer to her. In fact, she was so effective in getting it away from me, that it actually got away from her, and she dropped it on the floor. It was gone...

Touche! How many adults have had to learn that lesson the hard way. Some of us have already learned. We tried so hard to keep from God what was rightfully his, that we ultimately lost it all. Some of you will learn that lesson without having to lose it all. Unfortunately, many among you will never learn it until you lose it all... But once you inevitably learn that lesson, your life will be forever changed... for the best!
