Every now and then, there's a song that absolutely pegs "the business-as-usual" church. One of the most recent songs is John Mayer's Waitin' on the World to Change. Think about these words that describe the apathy of the many who do nothing but wait for someone else to change the world...
Me and all my friends
we're all misunderstood.
They say we stand for nothing and
there's no way we ever could.
Now we see everything that's going wrong
with the world and those who lead it .
We just feel like we don't have the means
to rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting,
waiting on the world to change.
We keep on waiting.
waiting on the world to change.
It's hard to beat the system
when we're standing at a distance.
So we keep waiting,
waiting on the world to change.
Congratulations, John Mayer! You may not have been specifically aiming to describe the 21st century church, but you nailed it. So many in our churches are simply waiting for someone else to change the world, never realizing that the power to change the world resides within each of us. If you're content to let someone else change the world, please don't come to Gateway. If you're happy with the way things are, with all due respect, PLEASE find another church. BUT, if you're ready to allow the power of Christ to transform the world through you, I'd love to meet and work alongside you!! I'll see you at Gateway Community Church this Sunday!
Peace!
