If the visit to the Clear Lake crash site helped me get in touch with my reminiscent romantic side, then a trip to the world's foremost outdoor outfitters store would jump-start the outdoor survivalist in me. We headed back to Minnesota on I-35 but made time to stop in Owatonna at Cabelas. I've never seen so many dead animals in my life. Cabelas has two African wildlife displays, complete with stuffed hyenas, cape buffaloes, lions, zebras, leopards, baboons, rhinos, and even an elephant with two tusks weighs more than 120 lbs. each! If that wasn't enough, the 150,000 square foot store has a artificial mountain with nearly every North American mammal I can think of--most in life-like poses. Finally, the walk-through aquariums have the biggest bream I've ever seen. We only stayed at Cabelas for about 30 minutes--there is only so much of that Amy can take, and, if I'm honest with myself, only so much I can stand as well. I will have to say that the huge (and I do mean huge) bronze elk sculptures out front are absolutely amazing.
Later on Sunday, I talked to Vernon, Jeremy, and several others who had been a Gateway that morning. Those who had been there said that Sunday morning had been great! Thanks so much to all who made Sunday great on both sides of the building!
