In a small suburb of Boston, childhood friends Alex Moore, Aram Bajakian, and Billy delGiudice began playing music together when they were just twelve years old. More than a decade later, they would reconvene in New York, attracting a loyal cult following with a unique and passionate brand of instrumental rock.
Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, vocalists/guitarists Evan Grove and Ethan Fixell were holed up in their bedrooms, amassing an arsenal of thoughtful pop songs. Frustrated by their musical limitations as a twosome, Fixell and Grove took off for NYC in search of new bandmates in Fall 2004.
Forces collided when the Philly duo witnessed the Bostonians perform one night at the Knitting Factory under the moniker Lancaster. In a moment that can only be described as "total fucking serendipity," the five musicians sat down for a beer together after the show to talk about their goals. There and then, in the Spring of 2005, The Anthem Sound was born.
After a year of struggling in the murk and filth of a tiny rehearsal space in midtown New York, the boys had assembled a devastating set of original songs. Driven by intricate vocal harmonies and layered guitars, their gritty sound became defined by the touch of melodic sweetness that infects each aggressive tune.
The Anthem Sound hit the studio with producer John Naclerio in the Fall of 2006 to record their first EP, out now on Hello My Name Is Records & Eyeball Records.
Look for The Anthem Sound this spring as they tour the northeast in support of the album.
