The Wizard of Oz The Pantomime

Hello there,

I'm very excited to let you all know about The Wizard of Oz The - Pantomime at TRW from Wed 9 December 2009 - Sun 3 January 2010. It's going to be even bigger and better than last year's panto!

Join Dorothy and her friends as they set off along the yellow brick road on a journey packed with surprises. Scarecrow is looking for a new brain, Tinman is in need of a heart and Cowardly Lion is desperate to find some courage. And the party wouldn't be complete without Toto, the cutest, cleverest puppy this side of Kansas.

On the way they'll meet mischievous monkeys, mysterious munchkins and the meanest, greenest witch ever to straddle a broomstick! But will they reach their journey's end to find the Wizard of Oz and will he be able to grant them their wishes? You can be sure of one thing - there'll be lots of songs, jokes, boos, hisses and cheering for everyone to join in.

Hi,
I hope you all had a great weekend, and you're all feeling refreshed and ready for another week.
No?
Oh well, at least there are some great theatre shows coming up at TRW to get excited about!

On Friday 10 October, the excellent Trestle Theatre Company will be dropping in with their new show, Lola, The Life Of Lola Montez. The show is presented in collaboration with Increpación Danza, a renowned Spanish dance company, who specialise in traditional Spanish and flamenco dance.

Lola Montez, the infamous 19th century Spanish dancer, stormed her way through life on a tumultuous journey of seduction, sorrow and success. Told through Lola's own words, with live music from renowned flamenco guitarist Ricardo Garcia, the show celebrates the life of an extraordinary woman who 'lived like she danced, with all the might of her body and fire of her soul.'

You can see a clip of the show here

I'm sure you'll agree, it looks like a great show, and if you want to buy tickets you can get them in person from our friendly Box Office staff, by calling 01962 840440, or by visiting our website.

Have a good week,

A Beauty of a pantomime at TRW

Hi there,

I'm really excited to be able to let you all know about the rather excellent pantomime that's going to be gracing the stage at Theatre Royal Winchester from Wednesday 10 December through to Sunday 4 January.

Beauty and the Beast, adapted from the much-loved fairy tale, is written and directed by James Barry and will be a treat for all the family. With original songs and plenty of audience participation, you'll be yelling out "It's behind you!" and "Oh no it isn't!" before you know it.

Deep within his castle, a hideous beast hides from the world, the victim of a witch's cruel spell that only a maiden's love can break. Meanwhile, the beautiful Belle dreams of one day meeting a man of pure heart and noble mind. But time is running out - it's a beastly situation!

In this magical heart-stopping tale you'll find jokes and japes, hisses and boos, enchantments and curses and some roofraising tunes.

So be our guest and book your tickets now by clicking here and you can check dates and times here. You can also buy tickets by calling our Box Office on 01962 840440, or drop in by the Theatre to purchase them the good old fashioned way.

Hope to see you all soon at the Theatre Royal,

All the best,

Dale Potter,
Digital Marketing Manager.

Summer Melt at TRW

Hello there,

As we enter June, thoughts turn to long, warm summer days and balmy nights. But when the good old British summer lets you down, you can all be sure of a great time at Theatre Royal Winchester's Summer Melt during July and August.

From Tues 22-Sat 26 July, we present the hilarious Waiting for Gateaux, written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, two of the UK's most successful comedy writers. This scrumptious, larger than life comedy is set in Mo-tivators possibly the least efficient health and fitness club in the country! Run by Maureen a 'big-boned' fifty-something widow from a small hall in the middle of nowhere it only attracts clientele who have nothing better to do. It's really just an excuse to meet friends, chat and eat cake. Things seem to be on the up when Sophie, a researcher for a reality TV programme, comes to check out the club but when a snowstorm arrives it brings with it revelations which will change their lives forever in this comedy about friendship, frostbite and French fries.

"A highly entertaining feelgood comedy that had it's sellout audience herniating with laughter" The Stage

Masters of the Musical will be visiting the TRW on Wednesday 30 July. It features tunes from some of the biggest musicals from both sides of the Atlantic. One of the most popular touring shows in the UK, it features show stopping numbers from Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins and many more.

There's a treat for fans of one of Britain's finest ever musical exports, Queen, when GaGa drop in for the evening to treat us all to a selection of their heroes hits. They're so good they don't even wear wigs, make up or false moustache's!

On Friday 1 August join us for a fascinating evening in the company of Michael Portillo. Anyone interested in the vagaries of political life should make a date to see the charismatic ex MP as he shares reminiscences and answers audience questions...

If you fancy unveiling your extrovert side, then Saturday 2 August is the evening for you! Sing-a-long-a Rocky Horror Picture Show, the campest cult classic of all time gets the Sing-a-long-a treatment it's been screaming for! Don't be shy, come along for a riotous, kitsch night that you'll never forget. Ladies undergarments are optional!

I think you'll agree that the Summer Melt has a little something for everyone, so come along and enjoy yourself.
