Biography
The female fronted pop/rock band - The Bright - officially formed in 2005 (formerly known as Superstring) in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX by vocalist Julie Lange, bassist Miguel Fair and guitarist Kell Curtis. After releasing a full-length album in late 2005 (By All Means) they were joined by guitarist Taylor Tatsch, drummer Cooper Heffley, who was later replaced by Robert Yahne and producer/keyboardist Eric Jenkins. With an award winning HD music video (“If You Want It”), a debut album, extensive shows under their belt and even a tour of the west coast in late 2007, the band went to work on another full-length release entitled “In Lucid Dreams”. After pre-releasing several songs from the album as an EP (“Pull Me Apart”) for the 2007 summer tour, the band felt the new name was more reflective of the new music.
Described as “that strange collective with a penchant for writing the most radio-friendly songs this side of LA – we mean that in a good way,” by the Dallas Observer, The Bright’s sound is influenced by 80’s new wave and synth pop, 90’s Brit and dream pop, yet always guitar driven with even a dash of 70’s British rock. To be referred to as a “collective” is a fitting description. It has a feel of being more than just a band with a couple of key songwriters and the rest merely performers. Each member of The Bright brings accomplished songwriting skills adding individual thumbprints to every song.
The singles “Cemetery Street”, “I’ve Got a Feeling” and “Almost Maybe”, from their full-length album “In Lucid Dreams”, has been prominently featured in season 4 (episodes 16, 18 and 20) of MTV’s wildly popular reality show “The Hills”. Additionally, the song “Severity” is set to be the title track for an upcoming video game produced by the Cyberathlete Professional League and Escalation Studios. “In Lucid Dreams” was recorded at Bass Propulsion Labs in Dallas, TX and was produced by Eric Jenkins, engineered by Eric Jenkins and Taylor Tatsch and is available for download on iTunes.
