But how did you come burning down like a
wild needle, knowing
just where my heart was?

There are night birds, in the garden below us, singing.
Oh, listen!
For a moment I thought it was
our own bodies.

L'infinito/Infinitive
I've always loved this lonesome hill
And this hedge that hides
The entire horizon, almost, from sight.
But sitting here in a daydream, I picture
The boundless spaces away out there, silences
Deeper than human silence, an unfathomable …
i shoot primarily for myself. sometimes for others, when asked nicely.

Thanks, I am packing to move right now but I kept it out to give it a shot. But I maybe tempted to reread Gilead again first.
theDespot, Oct 17, 2009:
i'd say move it right up there. it's a very different read, and not nearly so religious. still examines some of her tried and true themes-- (dissolution of) family, home, transience. it's haunting and gorgeous. i actually read housekeeping first and was subsequently overwhelmed by the bucolic transcendence of gilead and home.

Thanks for the comment on Robinson quote. How far should I move Housekeeping up my reading list? It's the only piece by her I haven't read.
