The Domus

With a blend of indie and electronica, Swedish four-piece THE DOMUS are about to make their full-length debut on Kasual Recordings. As with most bands, THE DOMUS was initially considered a side project, but as with most side projects, it got more and more serious by time. Back in 2003, when childhood friends Erik Axelsson (Jettie part-timer), Gustaf Wistrand and Stefan Juhlin (The Curtain, formerly Jettie) founded the band in Swedish mid-size city Esklistuna, the intention was to create an acoustic environment for singer/songwriter Stefan’s songs. Their first studio session, though, had a different outcome. Johan Carlsson, now a member of the band, insisted on taking the band a step further with some (then) subtle beats and loops. Over time, the electronic elements have become a natural, and increasing, part of the recordings, as well as the songwriting. If forced to drop influences, Stefan mentions Broken Social Scene, Jeff Buckley, Squarepusher and Phoenix.

With just two self-produced CD-R’s, THE DOMUS has managed to attract both radio stations and club promoters. Swedish national radio show P3 Lab aired an interview with the band in April 2006, and major pop show P3 Pop has featured the band. Before that, local station P4 broadcasted a live set together with an interview. In 2005, some 40 shows were done throughout Sweden, both on their own and as support for bands like We Are Scientists, Le Sport, Karl Larsson and Jettie. A small country as it is, that’s no less than many more recognized bands do.
