I fled from the Glastonbury washout like a mad
mud-lady, not because of the rain but because Meltdown at The Royal Festival hall beckoned. With the help of the Amishly bearded Mr. Eavis in his Landrover, and then some speed and determination by myself in a hired Ford Ka (so fucking cool, it only had a cassette stereo no less), I tried to make sound check with JAMC. Didn't make soundcheck, so wandered around the dressing rooms aimlessly excited til show time. Luckily Norman Blake of the mighty Teenage Fanclub kept me company playing a few standards on the babygrand. So many Scottish rock n roll heroes in one building, it was blinding.Bobby G, Gerry Love...and then strolling up behind Jim and Will Reid to sing BV's on a song I must have sung a thousand times in my boring bedroom as a 14 year old, who'd never heard of Psychocandy until Honey's Dead was released, and then, from nowhere My head was swimming in two genius albums. Coming of age... Literally - teenage Lust kept my imagination and my fingers busy. 2007 and I'm finally catching up with the finest Glaswegians in my record collection.
