We live in Toronto, play music, mope around, drink coffee. Sometimes we have pump organ in our songs, and we always have slide guitar, played from the lap. Electric reed organ and other sounds surface. And vocals, by friends. Did we mention Spanish wine?
Hey, you know when you go on myspace and update your crappy-looking page and suddenly those little advertising creatures on the top yell something incredibly obnoxious and you jump out of your skin and want to kill them, possibly by putting a chair leg on each one (how many are there? I can't look) and then just sitting there for a full week, obstinate, maybe wiggling a bit, until they croak? With a couple of phone books in your lap to increase the squish factor?
But nooooo, you put up with it cause you had, like, 8 hits that day, and even though Imogen Heap had 46,343 over the same amount of time, and she's half your age and you don't sing or do good gigs or anything (or write particularly appealing music), you still feel pretty optimistic about your future in the music biz because of the 8 hits. Meaning, what if one of the 8 were, par exemple, influential in the film business and needed trax??$?
So now, stoked, you spend a bunch of money and do another album. And the actuarial stats on this one dictate that if it sold for approx $85 per unit - as if anyone in the world would actually pay that kind of cash for a CD - and the rich dude who did pony up the $85 had 500 like-minded and supportive friends, and they all come through ... then you might recoup. (But would not be paid for your time.) Well, the great news is, Virb.com does not have those little advertising creatures! It occurs to me even as I write this: I'm calm. I do not feel the lurking presence of the cartoon version of a hand grenade, pin-pulled, waiting to explode with that phenomenally objectionable voice, "Helllooooooooo!! "
I love Virb for this. And I hate myspace for it.

The Henrys, Apr 28, 2009:
The Henrys have a new CD/DVD coming out June 7/09. Called 'Is This Tomorrow', it has lots of new music and photos and whatever else we had in the basement that we could cram on there. Check it out if you're so reclined.
