He Who Conquers His Ego, Conquers Life -
A Brief History of The Odd
Hidden away in their secret research facility, The Odd have astounded listeners for ages with their unique style of impromptu musical experiments. As the tape recorder rolled, they produced music that was totally improvised on the spot.
Ken Gary (The World's Greatest Poet) led the way, charting new paths into the vastness of imagination. Pounding his special set of Garbage Drums recovered by his uncle from a car wreck of unknown origin, C. Straight would sometimes play bass guitar or yell into the 2-dollar microphone attached to his drum set with duct tape, all while deftly operating the recording equipment used to capture their music.
Mr. Pun would provide the main body of sound, laughing at the absurdity of it all while smoking cigarettes and burning holes in the carpet with his cigarette ashes. As he battled the wall of feedback, he did his best to follow C. Straight's rather unorthodox drum stylings, meandering back and forth from one random time signature to the next.
C. Straight, who was also the studio's Chief Engine Ear could be heard above the din, screaming, "ALWAYS ROLL TAPE!" which became of course the studio's number one rule, followed by rule #2 - ALWAYS REMEMBER THE BEER.
Scholars are still musing over Ken Gary's lyrics, finding new universal secrets and occult knowledge every day. Such was the greatness of Ken Gary's insight into the hidden realms of human consciousness.
After recording a huge volume of work in their little studio, The Odd have since gone their separate ways. Ken Gary has, sadly, disappeared from the map. No one knows his exact location but he is rumored to be somewhere in the eastern part of the United States, working on poetry and his vast collection of obscure picture postcards. Mr. Pun has moved into the countryside to pursue his quest to rid the world of bugs. C. Straight continues to live in Straight Studio, creating music no one wants to hear.
