The Panics win the J Award!

The Panics have been given the top honour of receiving the 2007 J Award for their amazing album Cruel Guards. Triple J bestows the award on the body of work deemed to be Australian Album of the Year. The J Award is for an album of outstanding achievement as an Australian musical work of art - for its creativity, innovation, musicianship and contribution to Australian music.

"Cruel Guards is an album that spoke to us from beginning to end. With a definite Australian flavour in its atmosphere, the album realises The Panics' unique vision and contains the most consistent songwriting - both lyrically and musically - of any local album this year."
Richard Kingsmill, Triple J Music Director

The Panics first gained national attention with their acclaimed album 'Sleeps Like A Curse', which was also nominated for the J Award in 2005. This followed on from several releases which also saw the band critically acclaimed at an indie level. But it is Cruel Guards that has seen them seep into the consciousness of the nation, with their Australian-landscape evoking lyrics and classic pop bent reminiscent of The Triffids and the Go Betweens.

"It feels like it's worth so many years of work that we've put into this thing. We're not an overnight success, we're a group that thinks long and hard about the direction of the music that we make. We would simply like to be a band that means something to people, a band that is remembered for years to come for being a group that made a great record."
Jae Laffer, The Panics

Having just completed their sold out national tour, The Panics will be The Panics will be performing at various festivals throughout Australia, including Falls Festival, Southbound Festival and Laneway Festival. 2008 promises to be even bigger for The Panics with an invitation to perform at SXSW in the USA in March and plans on the boil for major touring throughout the USA and UK.
